The Food and Food Service Delivery Driver position at Performance Foodservice represents a critical link in the nation's food distribution network. This role ensures that customers receive their orders on time, intact, and in compliance with all safety standards. Driver responsibilities include operating tractor trailer or straight trucks on various routes such as local intrastate, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight. Duties encompass conducting thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining safety standards, reporting issues promptly, accurately processing delivery paperwork, and securing freight properly. Interpersonal skills are vital as drivers communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers to resolve inquiries effectively.
Daily operations involve delivering and unloading food and related products, performing damage control checks, verifying deliveries through customer signatures, handling cash or check payments where applicable, managing customer returns, and ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of trucks and trailers. Drivers also ensure secure and proper locking of equipment and trailers and maintain detailed records of their driving hours consistent with federal, state, and company rules. Housekeeping in loading dock areas and vehicle sanitation are part of the routine, with an emphasis on safety and operational efficiency.
This role demands physical stamina and the ability to handle product cases typically weighing from 10 to 35 pounds, and in some instances up to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates effectively. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, a clean driving record, required safety certifications, and successful completion of drug tests, background checks, and road tests are prerequisites. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and hold or be able to obtain a valid DOT health card.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Commercial driving experience of at least 12 months
- Valid CDL Class A license
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Clean driving record for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test
- Pass criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Valid or obtainable DOT health card
- Ability to safely lift products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds
- Ability to use handling equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Availability to work varying shifts including overtime and weekends
- Adherence to all Department of Transportation regulations and company policies
Job Qualifications
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- High school diploma or GED or state approved equivalent
- Valid CDL Class A license
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years
- Ability to pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Ability to pass company road test
- Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure one
- Ability to safely perform manual lifting and utilize equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates for product handling
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Job Duties
- Drive tractor trailer or straight truck on various routes including local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of vehicle and trailer following DOT regulations
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers to answer questions and ensure accurate deliveries
- Deliver and unload food and related products at customer sites in a safe and timely manner
- Complete and verify all delivery paperwork including customer signatures and invoices
- Secure tractor, trailer, and freight appropriately to prevent damage or theft
- Maintain and clean truck, trailer, and loading dock areas, ensuring general housekeeping and sanitation
- Record daily hours of service accurately in logs according to federal and state regulations
- Report any safety issues, vehicle defects, or delivery discrepancies promptly
- Handle cash or check payments and manage customer returns as required
- Comply with all DOT and company safety policies and guidelines
