Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor committed to delivering high-quality food products and exceptional customer service across various sectors, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, Performance Foodservice goes beyond just supplying food by helping businesses improve their operations, develop menus, select products, and implement operational strategies. This company fosters strong local relationships and supports independent restaurant owners and other clients in achieving their culinary and business goals. PFG is known for its comprehensive benefits, inclusive and safe working environment, and a culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect.
This opportunity is for an entry-level Driver Trainee role within Performance Foodservice. The position typically involves working 4 to 5 days a week from Monday through Saturday with an early morning start time and hours until the job is completed. After successful training, the pay rate averages $1,600 per week, with an additional $2,500 sign-on bonus available to eligible candidates. This role is fundamental to supporting the company’s food distribution system by learning to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The Driver Trainee will undertake comprehensive training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program to gain the skills needed for safe and compliant transportation of food and related products.
As a Driver Trainee, the candidate will ride along with driver trainers to assist in deliveries, perform safety inspections and checks on vehicles and trailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies, and ensure all freight is properly loaded, secured, and delivered on time. The role includes unloading products, transporting items to customer storage areas, verifying deliveries, securing returns, and completing all necessary documentation. The position demands adherence to safety standards and guidelines, accurate record-keeping of hours of service, and general housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and order in the truck and dock areas.
Performance Foodservice emphasizes professionalism in customer interactions, teamwork within the company, and delivering exceptional customer service. The company offers a comprehensive package of benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace that respects diversity and equal opportunity, which is reflected in its commitment to equal employment opportunity practices and policies.
This role is ideal for motivated individuals with a valid CDL A license who are looking to develop their commercial driving skills within a supportive and growth-oriented company. Potential candidates must be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving record, and pass necessary drug and road tests. The job also requires physical ability to handle freight, often weighing between 60 to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment such as lift gates and two-wheelers. Overall, this position offers a rewarding start for those seeking a stable career in food distribution logistics, with clear avenues for advancement and personal development within Performance Foodservice and PFG.
