The restaurant is currently looking to hire a passionate and skilled Junior Chef de Cuisine & Kitchen Manager. This role is critical to supporting the executive kitchen leadership in creating and executing delicious, well-balanced dishes that showcase the signature Califasian flavors. The Junior Chef de Cuisine will collaborate closely with ownership and the executive chef, assisting in menu development and ensuring that consistency in taste, quality, and presentation is maintained throughout all offerings. A key part of the role includes managing day-to-day kitchen operations, training and mentoring kitchen staff, and fostering a positive and high-performance culture in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position also involves overseeing event catering operations from buffet setups to formal plated services, accommodating special dietary needs such as vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and halal options.
Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as controlling food costs, managing inventory, and implementing streamlined kitchen procedures. Familiarity with cost control software like Margin Edge is highly regarded. The ideal candidate will bring strong multitasking abilities, excellent communication skills, and the flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Preference will be given to those with prior catering experience for large or high-end events. Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of professional kitchen experience specializing in Asian cuisine
- Strong understanding of Asian culinary techniques and flavors
- Proven leadership abilities in kitchen management and staff training
- Experience managing kitchen and event operations in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to accommodate dietary restrictions such as vegan, gluten-free, kosher, halal
- Basic computer skills for inventory, budgeting, and cost control
- Flexibility to work various shifts including day, evening, weekend, and holiday schedules
- Ability to communicate effectively with culinary teams and other departments
- Willingness to relocate or commute to Santa Monica, CA 90404
Job Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional kitchen experience, specializing in Asian cuisine (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Asian flavors, ingredients, and techniques
- Proficiency in Asian cooking methods (wok cooking, sushi, dim sum, fermentation)
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to perform under pressure
- Shows strong initiative and time management, consistently meeting deadlines with high-quality work
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Flexibility to work day or evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Catering experience, both corporate and large-high end events, is a plus
Job Duties
- Work closely with ownership and the executive chef to create flavorful, well-balanced dishes
- Assist in developing and streamlining technique for consistency and easy execution
- Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation
- Collaborate on corporate catering and special event catering (weddings, bar/bat mitzvah, social event)
- Stay current with culinary trends, seasonal ingredients, and modern techniques
- Execute events from buffets to formal plated service with elegant presentation
- Help oversee daily kitchen operations for efficiency and consistency
- Train and mentor kitchen staff to uphold high culinary standards
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively between the culinary team and various department
- Foster a positive, high-performance kitchen culture
- Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards
- Manage inventory, ordering, and food costs while maintaining budget targets
- Implement systems to streamline kitchen procedures
