Candidates are expected to bring a strong sense of customer service, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask and organize effectively under changing priorities.
Key responsibilities include coordinating event set-ups by transporting and arranging furniture and equipment, interacting with customers to gather detailed information on event requirements, performing custodial tasks as needed during office moves or when short-staffed, maintaining storage areas, and monitoring the condition of college vehicles used for these tasks. Additionally, maintaining an accurate inventory of event materials such as tables, chairs, hand-trucks, and specialized tools is crucial to the role.
This role requires more than just physical ability; it demands collaborative work with colleagues to foster a respectful and inclusive campus environment aligning with Amherst College's values. Candidates must successfully complete background checks, pre-employment physicals, and lift tests and possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to complete the Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program to operate college vehicles. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with general knowledge of equipment maintenance, basic hand tool operation, and familiarity with email and internet usage.
