The City of San Marcos, Texas, is a vibrant community committed to providing excellent service to its residents while maintaining a high quality of life. The local economy is diverse, shaped by business, industry, education, retail, and government sectors, all contributing to a thriving, job-producing city. The city works closely with community partners to nurture opportunities that foster growth and development. It offers a variety of services and maintains public facilities for the enjoyment of its citizens. Among these facilities is the Rio Vista Pool, an integral part of the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department. The pool serves as a hub for community engagement during the warmer months, offering a safe and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors alike.
The role of Cashier/Pool Attendant at the Rio Vista Pool is a pivotal position responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all guests. This full-time summer aquatics position operates primarily between May and September during the City of San Marcos' 2026 operational season, offering an hourly wage of $14.00. The Cashier/Pool Attendant manages front desk operations, including the collection of admission fees and handling of payments, ensuring the smooth flow of pool access. This role is essential in supporting the enforcement of facility rules, thereby maintaining order and safety within the pool area. The attendant's responsibilities extend beyond simple cashier duties to include overseeing the cleanliness and organization of pool facilities, such as decks, restrooms, and surrounding areas, to uphold stringent health and safety standards.
This position requires a dependable individual who can remain composed under pressure and exercise sound judgment during emergencies. The ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patrons is critical, as the role involves high levels of interaction with a diverse public. The work environment includes outdoor conditions such as heat, sun exposure, humidity, and chemical contact, necessitating physical stamina and attention to safety. Benefits provided by the City of San Marcos include a comprehensive retirement plan via Public Agency Retirement Services, an optional 457-deferred compensation plan and Roth IRA through Mission Square Retirement Corporation, an employee assistance program, activity center membership, and convenient direct deposit for payroll. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking meaningful summer employment in a community-focused work setting, gaining valuable experience in customer service, cash management, and facility operations within a municipal government context.
