Job Description

Vallarta Supermarkets is a well-established grocery store chain that has become an integral part of the diverse communities it serves across California. Founded in 1985 by Enrique Gonzalez Sr., the company began as a small carniceria in Van Nuys and has grown to operate 53 full-service markets throughout the state, including counties such as Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, Kern, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Tulare, Orange, and Fresno. Vallarta is a family-owned business rooted deeply in the values of hard work, family unity, and commitment to quality customer service. The Gonzalez family, originally from Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, Mexico, built the brand on the principles of offering the freshest, most authentic Latin American products coupled with friendly, personalized service. Today, Vallarta Supermarkets employs over 8,000 team members who share the Gonzalez family’s vision of providing customers with exceptional shopping experiences that reflect the cultural needs and desires of the Hispanic community and beyond.

The Cashier position at Vallarta Supermarkets is a part-time role based in Pasadena, CA, with a competitive hourly salary ranging from $18.77 to $19.34. This role is essential in ensuring that every customer’s experience at the check stand is warm, efficient, and accurate. Cashiers are the first and last point of contact for customers during their shopping visits and therefore play a critical role in upholding Vallarta’s six steps of extraordinary service—smiling and greeting customers, modeling core values such as integrity and respect, and maintaining cleanliness and organization. Beyond operating the cash register and handling monetary transactions correctly, cashiers also assist with bagging groceries according to customer preferences, manage stock levels at the front-end, and adhere strictly to company policies related to items such as alcohol, tobacco, and government assistance programs including WIC and EBT. The position requires standing and walking for 6 to 8 hours or more per day, occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending and reaching, making it a physically active role.

Vallarta Supermarkets emphasizes inclusion and diversity in its hiring practices, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and experiences. The company is committed to providing a positive and collaborative work environment that values teamwork, respect, and humility among employees. For individuals passionate about fresh food, customer service, and being part of a family-like company culture, this cashier role offers a rewarding opportunity to work in a festive and fast-paced grocery environment that serves the needs of local communities with distinction. The role also requires adherence to dress code and grooming standards and offers opportunities for employees to grow within the company. With its strong ties to Hispanic heritage and expanding offerings—including a bakery, cevicheria, tortilleria, and juice bars—Vallarta Supermarkets provides a unique workplace where employees contribute to a legacy of excellence and cultural pride in the grocery retail sector.
