Job Description
Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) is a prominent Fortune 100 home improvement company renowned for serving millions of customers across the United States each week. In fiscal year 2025, Lowe's reported sales exceeding $86 billion, demonstrating its substantial presence and influence in the retail home improvement industry. Headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, the company operates over 1,700 stores, 530 branches, and 130 distribution centers nationwide. With approximately 300,000 associates, Lowe's is committed not only to delivering quality products and services but also to enhancing the communities it serves through initiatives that promote safe, affordable housing, community space improvements, skilled trade development, and disaster relief efforts.
As a cashier at Lowe's, you play a vital role in creating a positive shopping experience by ensuring every customer leaves satisfied. This role focuses on providing a friendly, efficient checkout process that reflects Lowe's dedication to excellent customer service. Cashiers engage directly with customers by scanning and bagging items, handling payments and exchanges, and answering inquiries to help customers find the best value for their money. While the primary responsibility revolves around managing the register, cashiers may also assist in various other tasks across the store including stocking shelves, supporting other departments, and maintaining a clean and safe workstation.
Lowe's values flexibility and growth opportunities for its associates, offering both part-time and full-time positions that come with competitive pay and a range of benefits. Employees gain access to health insurance plans, a tuition assistance program, a 401(k) plan with company matching, and an Employee Stock Purchase Program to help secure their financial future. Additionally, associates benefit from a 10% discount on purchases and the chance to learn new skills through programs like Track to the Trades.
The ideal candidate for the cashier position at Lowe's enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is customer-focused, and takes pride in problem-solving. Basic skills such as reading, writing, and performing arithmetic are essential, as is the ability to stand and sit for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds. Experience in retail or customer service and bilingual skills are advantageous, as Lowe's encourages diverse applicants including military and veteran talent.
Working conditions vary by location and can include exposure to different weather elements and environmental noises. The physical aspect of the job requires adherence to lifting guidelines, utilizing team lifts or powered equipment when handling heavier objects. Despite these conditions, Lowe's is committed to ensuring a supportive environment that fosters teamwork, safety, and professional development.
This position does not generally require travel, aside from occasional trips to meetings, training sessions, or neighboring stores. Lowe's is an equal opportunity employer that embraces diversity and ensures fair treatment for all employees, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics. For candidates seeking a role where they can contribute to a dynamic company that values community impact and personal growth, the cashier position at Lowe's offers a meaningful career pathway with substantial benefits and the opportunity to make a real difference every day.
