Job Description
Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) is a prominent Fortune 100 home improvement retailer dedicated to serving millions of customers across the United States every week. With more than 1,700 home improvement stores, 530 branches, and 130 distribution centers, Lowe's operates on a massive scale and employs approximately 300,000 associates. Headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, the company has a strong commitment to supporting the communities it serves by focusing on safe and affordable housing, community space improvements, the development of skilled trade experts, and disaster relief efforts. For fiscal year 2025, the company reported sales exceeding $86 billion, reflecting its strong presence and trusted reputation in the home improvement retail sector.
Joining Lowe's means more than just employment; it offers a path for growth, learning, and community impact. As a Lowe’s cashier, you play a crucial role in the customer experience. Your responsibilities go beyond merely scanning items and handling payments — you are the friendly face and welcoming presence that customers encounter when completing their purchases. By providing quick, efficient, and professional checkout services, you help ensure that every customer leaves the store satisfied and valued. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and have a passion for excellent customer service.
At Lowe's, associates enjoy competitive pay and flexible scheduling, supporting diverse employment needs whether part-time or full-time. Additionally, Lowe's offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employees’ health, financial security, and personal growth. Associates have access to multiple health insurance plans, a company-matching 401(k) retirement plan, an employee stock purchase program, and tuition assistance to pursue further education. The company also provides a 10% associate discount and opportunities to learn new trade skills through programs like Track to the Trades. Lowe’s commitment to inclusiveness is evident in its encouragement of bilingual, military, and veteran talent to apply, reinforcing a diverse and supportive workplace culture.
Your daily duties as a cashier include delivering a friendly and fast checkout experience, proactively assisting customers using self-checkout stations, accurately scanning and bagging items, managing cash registers and payment transactions, handling customer inquiries, and maintaining a clean and safe workstation. Flexibility is key, as you may also provide support to other departments such as stocking shelves or managing carts. This dynamic role requires a combination of basic math skills, computer literacy, physical stamina for standing or sitting for extended periods, and the ability to lift items typically up to 10 pounds unassisted and up to 15 pounds with accommodation.
Working conditions vary by location and may expose associates to a range of environmental factors including varying weather, noise, and physical activity. Safety is a priority, with training on lifting methods and the use of powered equipment to minimize risk.
Lowe's is dedicated to equal opportunity employment and creates a workplace free of discrimination and harassment. With its strong community roots, expansive growth opportunities, and commitment to employee well-being, Lowe's is a great place to build a career in retail and customer service.
