The role of a Cashier at Total Wine & More is integral to delivering an outstanding customer experience. As a Front End Team Member, the cashier plays a pivotal role in ensuring customers’ visits are fast, friendly, and positive, which drives customer loyalty and repeat business. This position is designed to provide a blend of customer service, sales transactions, and product knowledge to enhance shopping experiences. Cashiers process sales transactions accurately, handle payments, and verify identification while answering customers’ questions, thereby facilitating smooth and efficient store operations.

Beyond transaction processing, Cashiers at Total Wine & More engage customers by greeting them warmly, building relationships, and informing them about products, promotional offers, and the loyalty program. The role includes participating in specialized training on wines, spirits, and beers to develop expertise in the products sold. Maintaining store safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all applicable alcohol sales laws is a critical responsibility, ensuring a secure and welcoming environment for all.

This position is suitable for both part-time and full-time employment, with the possibility of short-term seasonal positions lasting no longer than six months, which may lead to non-seasonal roles. Physical requirements include being able to stand for extended periods, bending, lifting cases and pallets, and working in varying weather conditions where applicable. The cashier’s duties may also extend to other store functions like merchandising and stocking, offering a comprehensive retail experience.

Job Requirements

  • must be 21 years of age or older
  • walk, bend down repeatedly, and be on feet for 8-10 hours a day
  • ability to safely lift, load, and handle cases and pallets
  • climb ladders and lift 50 lbs overhead and repeatedly
  • may be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions throughout the workday

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • passion for best-in-class customer service and team player mindset
  • 1-3 years of work experience, 1 or more years of experience in a retail setting preferred
  • familiarity with point-of-sale systems and inventory management software
  • ability to work a flexible schedule as business requires, including evenings and weekends

Job Duties

  • process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, including identification verification, payment handling, answering inquiries, promoting loyalty program, and bagging product
  • deliver exceptional service and a personalized experience by greeting customers, engaging to build relationships, and informing about products and services
  • participate in wine, spirits, and beer training to build product knowledge
  • maintain knowledge of advertisements, promotions, and loyalty programs
  • maintain safety and cleanliness standards across the store
  • ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations related to the sale of alcohol and maintain a safe and compliant store environment
  • complete cross-functional responsibilities and other duties as assigned
