The Head Cashier position is a vital role within our frontline team responsible for overseeing the activities of cashiers who handle fast, friendly, accurate, and safe service at checkout and self-checkout points. This role demands leadership and operational expertise to ensure smooth transactions, minimize shrinkage, and enhance the overall customer experience. The Head Cashier supports and mentors cashiers by facilitating price checks, approving transaction adjustments, and managing escalated customer issues. In addition to supervising daily cashier operations, the Head Cashier participates in the training and development of new and existing cashiers to maintain high service standards. This role requires a proactive approach to knowledge acquisition about products and projects to inform customers effectively and identify additional sales opportunities. Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of cashier experience and possess strong communication, problem-solving, and coaching skills to contribute significantly to the front-end team’s success.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum one year of cashier experience
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Basic math skills
  • Customer-focused mindset

Job Qualifications

  • One year or more of cashier experience
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to handle escalated customer issues
  • Experience in supervising or training staff preferred
  • Knowledge of point of sale systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Process checkout and return transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Monitor and maintain the self-checkout area
  • Position and support cashiers by expediting price checks and approving point of sale transactions
  • Manage markdowns for mainline registers, self-checkout, returns, pro desk, special services, and tool rental
  • Provide first level escalation for customer issues
  • Assist in the supervision, coaching and training of front end associates
  • Participate in training new cashiers and utilize tools to coach and develop other cashiers
