The role of Cashier at California Fish Grill is an essential position responsible for ensuring seamless and accurate financial transactions with guests during restaurant serving hours. This hourly, non-exempt position directly contributes to the guest experience by greeting customers warmly, efficiently processing food and beverage orders, and accurately managing cash and credit card payments. Reporting to the Restaurant General Manager and Training General Manager, the Cashier must maintain thorough knowledge of the current menu and pricing and demonstrate the ability to handle gift cards, identify counterfeit money, and enforce age verification protocols for alcoholic beverages. Key to this role is the ability to maintain a friendly and expedient interaction with all guests while ensuring all operational standards are upheld, including cleanliness, safety, and compliance with company policies. The Cashier position demands strong multitasking skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience
  • Valid ServSafe or other approved food handler certification
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol according to state regulations
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull up to 50 lbs
  • Must maintain personal hygiene and neat uniform
  • Ability to maintain composure under urgent conditions
  • Ability to operate POS and credit card equipment
  • Ability to work scheduled hours including possible extended shifts
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team
  • Ability to uphold company rules and safety procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience demonstrating ability to perform job duties
  • Prior experience related to cashier or food service positions
  • Valid ServSafe or approved food handler certification
  • High level of integrity and honesty
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills
  • Ability to operate POS and credit card equipment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain composure under pressure
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity and good auditory and visual skills

Job Duties

  • Greet guests, receive food orders, repeat food orders, charge the appropriate price for each menu item ordered by guests, receive the correct amount tendered by guests and provide the correct change for each transaction
  • Be able to enact gift cards requested by guests
  • Be very familiar with and up to date with California Fish Grill Restaurants menu and prices
  • Interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Ability to make corrections to guest orders in a fast and efficient manner
  • Ability to determine counterfeit money and respond to situations involving counterfeit money
  • Assure age requirements are verified prior to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
  • Report to work in a neat and clean uniform
  • Keep work area neat and clean at all times
  • Clean and maintain equipment used
  • Complete requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene
  • Support safety, security and risk management procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest credit card information
  • Comply with laws to provide a workplace free from sexual harassment and discrimination
  • Cooperate and work together with all co-workers
  • Follow up appropriately with supervisor, co-workers or guests regarding complaints, problems and concerns
  • Promote positive public relations with community, family members and guests
  • Perform other duties as required or requested
