Job Description

ResCare Community Living, part of the Sevita family, has been dedicated since 1974 to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live more independently in their homes and communities. As a notable provider of home and community-based specialized health care, ResCare Community Living focuses on delivering person-centered services that enhance skill-building, foster independence, and support individuals in overcoming daily challenges. With a team of experienced and compassionate staff, the organization supports approximately 50,000 individuals across the United States, emphasizing quality, dignity, and respect for those they serve. Sevita, with over 40,000 team members, continues to innovate and elevate care standards, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their physical, intellectual, or behavioral challenges, has access to opportunities for growth and self-sufficiency.

The Direct Support Professional role at ResCare is a non-exempt, hourly position available for full-time or part-time employment. This role involves directly supporting individuals within a program or unit, typically assisting 4 to 6 individuals in residential settings or up to 10 individuals in periodic programs. The primary objective is to implement individualized service and program plans that promote socialization, health maintenance, medication administration, and skill development. This position requires delivering personal care, aiding with housekeeping, facilitating recreational activities, transportation, shopping, community integration, and assisting individuals in developing citizenship skills and managing daily living activities.

Essential job functions include providing direct support according to service plans, documenting progress accurately, managing individuals' assets responsibly, and fostering positive relationships with individuals served, their families, guardians, and case managers. The role includes reporting any incidents of abuse, neglect, or medical emergencies promptly and upholding confidentiality and respect for individuals' rights.

Health care responsibilities involve accompanying individuals to medical appointments, administering medications as assigned, monitoring health conditions, handling medical supplies and equipment properly, and supporting meal preparation aligned with dietary needs. Employment responsibilities encompass attending all required training, adhering to scheduled work hours, cooperating as part of the team, and maintaining workplace safety standards.

Additional duties include transporting individuals while following safety regulations, performing housekeeping and minor maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and tidy environment, and participating in safety drills. There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this role. This position demands physical capability for heavy work, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, reflecting the physical nature of the job.

ResCare Community Living encourages a supportive and inclusive work environment where safety, respect, and professionalism are paramount. Adherence to all regulatory and licensing requirements and cooperation during inspections and inquiries is mandatory. The organization prioritizes compliance with state-mandated training, drug testing policies, background checks, and vehicle operation qualifications for employees involved in transportation. ResCare and Sevita are equal opportunity employers committed to diversity and nondiscrimination in all aspects of employment.
