Job Description
D&S Community Services, a proud member of the Sevita family, is dedicated to providing compassionate, community-based services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Operating under the broader mission of Sevita, a leading home and community-based specialized healthcare organization, D&S Community Services believes that every person has the fundamental right to live a rich and fulfilling life. The organization emphasizes person-centered care, focusing on individualized support to empower each individual to achieve greater independence, personal growth, and a meaningful quality of life. Sevita, with over 50 years of experience and a workforce of 40,000 team members nationwide, serves more than 50,000 individuals across the United States, continuously innovating to improve health outcomes and community integration.
D&S Community Services is currently seeking dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join their mission-driven team. These positions are vital to the success of the organization’s programs and the well-being of the individuals served. This is a non-exempt, hourly role, available on a full-time or part-time basis, that involves directly supporting individuals in residential or periodic program settings. Typically, a DSP supports 4 to 6 individuals in residential settings, or up to 10 individuals in periodic programs. The role requires compassionate and patient professionals who are committed to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The DSP will provide personalized assistance aligned with individual service or program plans. Their responsibilities include supporting socialization, health maintenance, medication administration, and skill or behavioral development. In addition, DSPs help individuals with daily living activities such as personal care, housekeeping, recreational activities, transportation, shopping, community integration, and citizenship. Attention to detail is critical, as DSPs are responsible for accurately recording progress and maintaining confidentiality of all documentation and communication.
This role also includes managing the individual’s assets by making appropriate and cost-effective purchases according to the preferences of the people supported. Maintaining professional and healthy relationships with individuals, their families, guardians, and case managers is fundamental to successful service delivery. DSPs are expected to uphold Sevita’s Customer Service Standards and ensure the dignity and rights of those they support by adhering to all applicable rights and safety procedures.
From a healthcare perspective, DSPs may accompany individuals to medical appointments, relay necessary medical information, and administer medications when assigned. Monitoring individuals’ health status and providing support according to health directives is essential, including managing medical supplies and equipment, preparing meals according to dietary needs, and ensuring dining plans are properly followed.
Employment responsibilities include attending orientation and ongoing training, participating in staff meetings, adhering to work schedules, and contributing to a safe and collaborative workplace. DSPs are also expected to perform basic maintenance tasks, report hazards, and ensure that vehicles and equipment used for transportation are operated safely and according to local laws.
D&S Community Services values teamwork and open communication, promoting a respectful and inclusive environment for all employees and individuals served. This role requires physical capability for heavy work, including exerting significant force to support individuals and manage various tasks safely.
The organization is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of employment, without discrimination based on any legally protected characteristic. Overall, joining D&S Community Services means becoming part of a compassionate and committed team dedicated to making a lasting positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities, helping them live independently and meaningfully within their communities.
