Job Description
D&S Community Services, a dedicated part of the Sevita family, is committed to providing exceptional community-based services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Sevita has built a reputation over more than 50 years as a leading provider of home and community-based specialized health care. They believe in the fundamental right of every individual to live a full and independent life, regardless of any physical, intellectual, or behavioral challenges they may face. Supporting over 50,000 individuals across the United States, Sevita employs a vast team of 40,000 professionals who are passionate about delivering quality, individualized care and fostering growth and independence for the communities they serve. The organization prides itself on fostering a mission-driven culture where every employee is valued, motivated, and inspired to create meaningful relationships that enhance the lives of those they support.
This role as a Direct Support Professional at D&S Community Services offers an opportunity to join this impactful mission. This is a non-exempt, hourly position available for full-time or part-time employment, focused on providing direct care and support within residential settings or periodic programs. The position entails working closely with a small group of individuals—typically 4 to 6 in residential settings or up to 10 in periodic programs—ensuring their well-being and helping them achieve personal goals in accordance with individualized service plans. The role covers a broad range of responsibilities, including assisting with daily living activities such as personal care, housekeeping, recreational activities, community integration, shopping, transportation, and promoting citizenship and skill development.
Direct Support Professionals are essential in delivering compassionate aid through medication administration, health maintenance, behavioral support, and emotional encouragement. Meticulous documentation of progress, accurate reporting of any incidents or changes, and maintaining confidentiality are critical parts of the role. Employees are also entrusted with managing individuals’ personal assets responsibly while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service. This includes maintaining positive relationships with families, guardians, and case managers, and ensuring that the rights and dignity of each individual are respected and protected at all times.
The employment environment involves working in the program location and accompanying individuals into the community as needed. The role demands physical capability to perform heavy work, including lifting and moving up to 100 pounds occasionally. Employees must be prepared to engage in safety-focused practices, adhere to all training requirements, and participate in workplace safety initiatives.
D&S Community Services values teamwork, punctuality, and initiative, requiring staff to work collaboratively, respect team members, and maintain reliable attendance. Compliance with all regulatory, safety, and driving requirements is mandatory, including passing background checks and drug testing, completing all required certifications and state-mandated trainings, and holding a valid driver’s license with good standing. For those providing transportation, vehicle insurance and registration are also required.
Joining D&S Community Services means becoming part of a compassionate, dedicated team that makes a tangible difference in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. This position offers more than just a job—it offers a career where you can experience genuine fulfillment and the satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause. Sevita’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity ensures an inclusive work environment free from discrimination of any kind. If you are passionate about supporting others and creating a positive impact through caregiving, this opportunity is ideal for you.
