Can Can Brasserie is a celebrated and iconic dining establishment located in the vibrant Carytown neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. As a proud member of the HOUSEpitality Family, Can Can Brasserie embodies the essence of authentic French cuisine combined with a bustling cafe atmosphere and a renowned scratch-made bakery program. This restaurant is deeply rooted in Richmond’s culinary scene, recognized for delivering high-quality, handcrafted artisan breads, croissants, pastries, and desserts to its patrons every single day. With a commitment to excellence, Can Can Brasserie has built a loyal customer base and a strong reputation for its dedication to both traditional French baking techniques and innovative pastry creations. Their bakery program is distinct and highly respected, underpinned by a team of passionate culinary professionals who maintain the highest standards in all aspects of production. The establishment also places significant value on nurturing talent and fostering culinary growth within its team, positioning itself as not only a workplace but a community for culinary artisans.
The Pastry Sous Chef role at Can Can Brasserie offers an exciting leadership opportunity within this esteemed bakery and pastry program. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about the craft of baking and eager to contribute hands-on to one of Richmond’s most recognized pastry operations. As a Pastry Sous Chef, you will serve as a crucial part of the leadership team responsible for daily pastry and bakery production, ensuring that every item produced meets the impeccable quality standards the restaurant is known for. This role involves producing a broad array of bakery items, including croissants, artisan breads, laminated dough products, pastries, desserts, and specialty items crafted entirely from scratch.
The successful candidate will work closely alongside Chef Ben Hill, a highly regarded pastry chef who has meticulously developed the bakery program over many years. This mentorship opportunity provides an avenue to deepen your baking expertise, refine production techniques, and engage in innovative dessert and menu development. The position goes beyond routine baking tasks; it includes mentoring and supporting pastry team members, maintaining production schedules, overseeing inventory management, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. It is a hands-on leadership role that demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for quality and consistency.
The Pastry Sous Chef is expected to thrive in a fast-paced, early-morning work environment where teamwork, creativity, and dedication to craft are paramount. This is a full-time role offering competitive pay ranging from $22 to $25 per hour based on experience, with opportunities for overtime. Additional benefits include a generous employee meal discount, paid time off starting on day one, and eligibility for comprehensive health, dental, vision insurance, short-term disability, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement after one year of employment at 30 or more hours per week. The position emphasizes career growth, with ample opportunities for professional development and advancement within the HOUSEpitality Family. If you have a fervent passion for artisan baking and want to play a pivotal role in a highly acclaimed pastry program, Can Can Brasserie invites you to join their dedicated culinary team and contribute to Richmond’s vibrant culinary heritage.
