The role of Petroleum Inspector within Intertek Caleb Brett is a full-time position based onsite in El Paso, TX, with essential travel to various client sites. This position embodies a practical and dynamic career path in the Inspection and Testing business, providing the opportunity to work with industry-leading teams and methodologies. The Petroleum Inspector is pivotal in ensuring precise volume measurement, temperature recording, and sampling of petroleum and other commodities during transfer processes. This role requires conducting detailed visual inspections, custody transfer surveys, and routine equipment calibrations to ensure compliance and accuracy. Inspectors will follow established Caleb Brett safety protocols and collaborate closely with terminal, transport, and company personnel to facilitate effective job completion. Emphasis is placed on meticulous record-keeping and clear communication, whether through digital or print media, guaranteeing traceability and validity of inspection data.

Candidates will perform hands-on inspections including sealing tanker trucks at third-party terminals and measuring commodities contained in lines, shore tanks, rail cars, and tank trucks. The position demands physical agility to climb ladders, stairs, and engage in various lifting and bending activities while maintaining strict safety standards. Additionally, the role includes on-the-job training and opportunities for skill development through interaction with experienced inspectors. Job Requirements

  • Must have basic grasp of basic mathematics and work in an automated environment
  • Ability to work on an on-call basis
  • Cannot have a fear of heights
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs for shore tanks
  • Ability to perform volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials
  • Ability to perform visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges and ships
  • Ability to complete custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks
  • Ability to perform routine equipment calibrations, verification and function checks
  • Ability to verify and communicate the results obtained and to make the entries into the appropriate media
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record

  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate

Job Qualifications

  • Basic grasp of mathematics
  • Ability to work in an automated environment
  • Experience with volume measurement, temperature measurement, and sampling of commodity materials
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and custody transfer surveys of commodities
  • Ability to perform routine equipment calibrations and verification
  • Effective communication skills for documenting and reporting results
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable driving record
  • Awareness and adherence to safety practices
  • Ability to travel as required for business
  • Physical ability to perform lifting, walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, and driving
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and business ethics (Intertek’s 10X Energies)
  • On-call availability
  • Prior experience in petroleum inspection or related fields preferred but not mandatory
  • IFIA certification is a plus
  • TWIC certification is a plus

Job Duties

  • Understand and adhere to Caleb Brett safety procedures
  • Seal tanker trucks at third-party terminals
  • Perform volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials
  • Conduct visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks
  • Complete custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks
  • Perform routine equipment calibrations, verification and function checks
  • Verify and communicate results and enter data into appropriate media
  • Provide on-the-job assistance and receive training from experienced inspectors
  • Communicate and coordinate with terminal, transport and Company personnel to ensure smooth execution of duties
  • Monitor supply availability and report needs
  • Organize and coordinate jobs to ensure timely service and reporting
  • Maintain work areas, records and equipment in clean and functional condition
