This role is within the bakery department at Costco, specifically focusing on cake preparation and decoration. It entails a variety of tasks from cutting and filling cakes to icing and decorating, ensuring that each cake meets the high-quality standards expected by Costco members. The position requires working closely with bakery production schedules and adhering strictly to sanitation and safety protocols. In this role, the employee will be responsible for precise cake preparation, including using pastry bags and tips to decorate with messages, cut cakes for filling, and package products correctly for both special orders and stock. The individual must be attentive to detail, follow strict guidelines outlined in the Cake Decorating Manual, and work efficiently to support daily bakery production goals. Team collaboration is essential, as is the capacity to assist with other bakery duties and occasionally support other warehouse departments when needed. Additionally, the position involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and workspace according to standard operating procedures, complying with food safety certifications and training, and ensuring safe disposal of hazardous materials. The employee will also need to demonstrate the ability to operate warehouse vehicles or machinery where required, contributing to the overall operational efficiency within the department.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in bakery or food service preferred
Must be able to follow detailed instructions accurately
Ability to stand for extended periods
Open availability to meet business needs
Must provide proof of authorization to work in the United States
Willingness to comply with health and safety protocols
Ability to operate necessary equipment or machinery
Capable of lifting and moving bakery products and materials

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in bakery or food service preferred
Ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes
Familiarity with cake decorating techniques
Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
Effective communication and customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team

Job Duties

Checks cake orders stand for special orders
Checks daily inventory on the floor and pulls stock from the freezer or cooler to fill the merchandise area
De-pans, garnishes, and packages baked cheesecakes
Places finished product on racks and transfers racks to cooler, freezer or wrapping area
Checks production schedule for daily needs
Processes all cakes following assembly instruction in Cake Decorating Manual
Cuts half-sheet cakes in half to prepare for filling
Fills and ices cakes following weight instructions
Decorates cakes per decorating guidelines
Assists with other bakery duties as needed
Provides prompt and courteous member service
Follows SSOP guidelines as they refer to proper cleaning and sanitation of all equipment required by this position
Completes and complies with 11 Commandments of Quality Assurance, Food Safety certification, and all safety training required by the warehouse and department
Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials
Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery
Assists with department duties as necessary
Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
