The Cake Decorator role at Giant Eagle is a vital position within their Bakery Team. A Cake Decorator ensures that the bakery’s cakes and pastries not only taste delicious but also look visually stunning, adding expressive and artistic flair to each creation. As a Cake Decorator, you will play a key part in delighting customers by delivering products that enhance their celebrations and special occasions. Key responsibilities include preparing and decorating cakes using proper techniques, measuring and mixing ingredients for icings and fillings, managing product rotation and inventory, and taking special customer orders both in person and over the phone. Safety and sanitation are top priorities, and you will handle bakery equipment and ingredients with care. You will also maintain clean workspaces and adhere to food safety standards, ensuring compliance with company policies and health regulations. The ability to operate mixers, scales, and specialized tools like airbrush guns is part of the job, along with assisting in maintaining an efficient bakery backroom and cooler. The importance of customer interaction cannot be overstated; greeting guests warmly, answering questions, making product suggestions, and inspiring enthusiasm for bakery offerings are central to the role.

This position requires individuals who are eager to grow in leadership and continuously learn new baking and decorating techniques. Job Duties

  • Fill tables and cases with cakes by taking product from prep area to sales area
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure store meets out-of-stock percentage goals
  • Apply merchandising principles that help generate sales and impress guests
  • Take special orders from guests over the telephone and in person
  • Maintain quality of product for sale by checking sales area for dates and condition of product
  • Document and/or record daily known loss
  • Maintain safety as the top priority for team members, guests, and products
  • Provide exemplary customer service by greeting customers and helping them locate products
  • Inspire fellow team members and guests with passion for food and willingness to go the extra mile
  • Properly handle products and equipment according to food safety and guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, tables, utensils, and floors to meet safety and sanitation regulations
  • Prepare and decorate products for bakery cases and displays, ensuring code dating and freshness
  • Maintain safety and sanitation methods, emergency procedures, cleanup, steritech, lifting, and housekeeping standards
  • Accurately record special bakery orders to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Maintain department procedures including daily setups and order taking
  • Stay updated on new product knowledge, cake programs, portion control, seasonal items, and color mixing
  • Ice and decorate cakes using spatulas and icing bags
  • Prepare icing and products by reading recipes, measuring ingredients, and mixing
  • Assist in maintaining bakery backroom, cooler, and freezer efficiency by unloading deliveries
  • Operate bakery equipment such as mixers, scales, airbrush gun, knives, cut gloves, and personal protective equipment
  • Assist in other areas as required
