The Cafeteria Assistant Manager plays a vital role in supporting the Cafeteria Manager and leading the CNP team at the campus level. This position is integral in ensuring that every student receives a nutritious and appealing meal every day in adherence to the USDA and relevant state agency standards. The Cafeteria Assistant Manager is responsible for daily and weekly operations including ordering food and supplies, monitoring food quality, maintaining sales records, processing payments, and handling inventory management. This role also includes data entry tasks, providing excellent customer service to parents and students, and coordinating closely with the Cafeteria Manager to help realize the IDEA vision of "College For All."

Employment for this position is hourly, with compensation ranging from $16.96 per hour for those with no experience to $21.20 for more experienced candidates. In addition to the hourly wage, the role is eligible for performance bonuses based on team performance and goal achievement. Competencies essential for success in this position include the ability to motivate and lead a team, a strong understanding of food production methods and safety standards, good mathematical and financial knowledge, and excellent organizational and communication skills. Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office, is also required. The candidate must demonstrate adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and capacity to work well under stress while meeting deadlines. Position qualifications require a high school diploma or GED, at least two years of experience in food service or hospitality, preferred leadership experience, and a valid Texas driver’s license. A Food Handler’s Card is preferred but can be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Direct the team to execute the approved menu 100 percent every day
  • ensure every student participating in the meal program takes a reimbursable meal
  • ensure all methods of counting and claiming are compliant
  • observe that counting and claiming is happening at time of service
  • check that all counts of student meals are accurate
  • enter all counts correctly into internal trackers and PrimeroEdge
  • recruit top notch Food Service Specialists and substitutes
  • hold weekly employee huddles on operations and nutritional matters
  • review and submit employees’ timesheets every Tuesday
  • provide formal and timely feedback on work performance
  • develop Cafeteria Assistant Managers for potential promotion
  • conduct breakfast audits for compliance accuracy
  • report recipe and menu errors
  • engage with parents at campus functions about meal program benefits
  • identify students not participating in meal programs and report reasons
  • promote consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables
  • rotate milk for freshness
  • decorate serving line with appealing nutritional signage
  • implement and maintain salad bar where approved
  • follow designated menu daily without deviation
  • adhere to state policies and procedures for food service
  • track and implement compliance changes
  • correct non-compliance issues
  • consult HQ as needed
  • complete daily food production records
