Job Description

Progeny Coffee is a mission-driven coffee company based in San Francisco that was co-founded by Maria Palacio, a fifth-generation Colombian coffee farmer, and her husband, John Trabelsi. The company is dedicated to transforming the coffee industry by uplifting farmers out of poverty. They accomplish this by cutting out middlemen and offering full transparency from bean to cup, ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work. Progeny Coffee goes beyond delivering exceptional coffee by focusing on sustainability, education, and creating a positive impact both on farming communities and coffee lovers alike.

Progeny Coffee is not just about excellent coffee; it is about changing lives at the origin and redefining what it means to serve great coffee in the marketplace. The company places a high value on passion and attitude over prior barista experience, welcoming candidates who may lack prior coffee service experience but who demonstrate enthusiasm, dedication to exceptional customer service, and an innovative mindset. Comprehensive training is provided to all employees to equip them with the necessary skills, underscoring Progeny’s commitment to growth and development.

The role available at Progeny Coffee focuses on leading the day-to-day operations of the café located in San Francisco. This leadership position requires a focus on quality, hospitality, and efficiency, with a clear emphasis on supporting, coaching, and developing a team of baristas. The ideal candidate will lead with empathy and accountability, cultivating a welcoming environment for guests and team members alike. As a leader within the café, the person will uphold and model Progeny Coffee’s core values in every aspect of the customer experience, representing the authentic story behind their coffee, including the farmers who grow it.

Additional responsibilities include monitoring inventory, managing scheduling, overseeing general operational needs, and collaborating with company leadership to implement new initiatives, improve systems, and provide valuable feedback from the floor. This position is an opportunity for a passionate, organized, and customer-centered individual to join a company that truly values its people and mission.

Progeny Coffee encourages candidates who are team-oriented leaders with the ability to stay calm under pressure and confidently solve problems. The company is known for its supportive culture that leads with empathy, collaboration, and a growth mindset, offering professional growth opportunities and a platform to make a meaningful impact. Joining Progeny Coffee means becoming part of a team steadfastly committed to innovation, purpose, and redefining the coffee experience from origin to cup.
