The role of Busser / Food Runner is essential in supporting the restaurant servers and ensuring smooth and efficient service throughout meal periods. This position involves a variety of tasks including stocking service areas, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with the service of beverages, transporting food trays to the dining room, and supporting guests promptly and courteously. The Busser / Food Runner acts as a vital link between the kitchen and dining area, ensuring that tables are clean, well-set, and ready for the next guests in a timely manner.

This is a physically active role that requires the ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry items for extended periods. The ideal candidate will work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and demonstrate excellent teamwork skills. Responsibilities include managing table settings, maintaining stock levels, ensuring the cleanliness and organization of all service stations, and assisting servers during peak hours or large parties. The role also demands adherence to all company safety and security policies, with a proactive approach to maintaining a safe work environment.

Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules including weekends holidays and overtime if necessary
  • Must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds
  • Must be able to stand, walk lift and bend for long periods of time
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency as outlined during training

Job Duties

  • Set up the expedition area at beginning of every shift, breakdown at the end of the shift
  • Manicure tables and restock clean dishes
  • Set and clear tables
  • Stock all service stations and assist food servers with table service
  • Clear dirty table settings and prepare table for resetting
  • Reset all service ware as prescribed
  • Maintain stock and cleanliness of stations
  • Transport all dirty tableware to dishwashing area for proper cleaning
  • Between seating promptly clean table tops, chairs and booths
  • Check floor and clean as required
  • Reset and arrange tabletop
  • Respond appropriately to guest requests, communicating requests to server as needed
  • Communicate with server/hostess to assure efficient seating, table utilization and customer service
  • Assist server as needed with food delivery, especially with large parties and during peak periods
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager
  • Complete safety training and certifications
