Ottava Via is a vibrant Italian restaurant located in the heart of Corktown, Detroit, known for serving authentic homemade Italian dishes in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with features such as patio seating and an outdoor Bocce Ball court, creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment for guests. The Busser role at Ottava Via is a key position within the front-of-house team, directly contributing to the overall guest experience by maintaining a clean and welcoming dining environment. As a Busser, you will be responsible for managing table turnover efficiently, clearing and resetting tables promptly to ensure readiness for new guests, and supporting servers by delivering food and beverages accurately and promptly. You will also assist guests with immediate needs, enhancing their dining experience through attentive customer service.
In addition to table management and guest assistance, the Busser is tasked with maintaining cleanliness throughout the dining area, including sweeping, mopping, wiping down surfaces, and ensuring restrooms and common areas are clean and well-stocked. Proper disposal of trash and recyclables according to the restaurant's waste management protocols is essential to uphold Ottava Via's standards. The role also involves restocking condiments, napkins, and other service items and helping to organize supplies in the kitchen and service areas.
Collaboration is a critical aspect of this position, as the Busser works closely with servers and kitchen staff to coordinate smooth service operations. The role may also include assisting with special events and busy service periods, requiring flexibility and the ability to perform various tasks as directed by management. Adhering to health and safety regulations, including sanitation practices and food handling, is mandatory to maintain a safe environment for guests and staff.
While prior experience in food service or hospitality is beneficial, Ottava Via provides comprehensive on-the-job training to familiarize new Bussers with specific procedures, standards, and expectations. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in food service or hospitality beneficial but not mandatory
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members
- Willingness to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Clear tables promptly after guests depart, removing all used dishes, glassware, and utensils
- Reset tables quickly and efficiently with fresh linens, utensils, and glassware, adhering to Ottava Via's standards of presentation
- Ensure tables are set for new guests in a timely manner, maintaining an inviting atmosphere
- Support servers by delivering food and beverages to tables as needed, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Assist guests with any immediate requests or needs, providing excellent customer service and creating a positive dining experience
- Maintain cleanliness in the dining area, including regular sweeping, mopping, and wiping down surfaces
- Ensure restrooms and other common areas are clean, stocked, and well-maintained throughout your shift
- Dispose of trash and recyclables properly, following Ottava Via's waste management protocols
- Refill condiments, napkins, and other service items at tables and throughout the service stations
- Assist with organizing and restocking supplies in the kitchen and service areas as needed
- Work closely with servers and kitchen staff to coordinate service and ensure a smooth operation
- Assist in other tasks as directed by the management, including helping with special events or busy service periods
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper sanitation practices and food handling
- Follow Ottava Via's policies and procedures to ensure a safe and clean working environment
