Job Description
The Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa Waikiki Beach, located at 2365 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, Hawaii, is a prestigious and historic hotel known for its exceptional hospitality and prime beachfront location. As part of the renowned Westin brand, this resort offers guests an unforgettable experience, combining luxury accommodations with outstanding amenities. The Moana Surfrider is a popular destination for both leisure and business travelers who appreciate elegance, comfort, and superior service in a tropical paradise setting. The resort prides itself on maintaining high standards in every aspect of guest service, from the well-appointed rooms to the attentive food and beverage offerings. The team at the Moana Surfrider is committed to creating memorable experiences for all visitors through professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency.
The opportunity presented is for a part-time Food and Beverage Server within the resort’s various dining outlets. This non-management role offers an hourly pay ranging from $16.00 to $17.38 and is tip eligible, making it an attractive position for those who enjoy interpersonal interactions and working in a dynamic hospitality environment. The primary focus of this role is to provide an outstanding food and beverage service to guests, ensuring that each visitor feels welcomed and valued from the moment they enter the outlet until the completion of their meal. The position involves greeting guests by name whenever possible, serving water, bread, and coffee, and maintaining a clean and organized dining area.
In addition to serving food and beverages, the Food and Beverage Server is responsible for various related duties such as cleaning and setting up tables, inspecting the cleanliness and presentation of china, glassware, and silverware, and following strict health and safety standards. Candidates must practice a "clean-as-you-go" mentality to ensure work areas stay sanitary throughout service. Closing duties are comprehensive and include storing reusable goods, breaking down items, cleaning equipment and areas, restocking supplies, turning off lights, locking doors, and completing daily cleaning checklists. Safety adherence is critical, requiring the employee to report accidents or unsafe conditions and participate in safety training and certifications.
Physical demands are a significant aspect of this role as it requires the ability to stand, sit, or walk for long periods, handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance, and navigate uneven or slippery surfaces. The role requires good hand-eye coordination and the ability to perform fine motor tasks. Professionalism extends to the employee’s personal appearance and the confidentiality of proprietary information. Communication skills are essential, including clear verbal interactions with guests and polite telephone etiquette. The work culture emphasizes teamwork, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to quality and guest satisfaction.
This position is ideal for individuals looking to enter the hospitality industry or those seeking a flexible part-time job with a reputable employer. While no prior work experience or supervisory experience is required, candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The Moana Surfrider provides a supportive work environment where employees can grow their skills and contribute to a memorable guest experience. By joining the team, you become part of a legacy that values quality, service excellence, and community engagement, all set within one of Hawaii’s premier luxury resorts.
