The Rochester campus, accredited by The Joint Commission, is currently seeking a Senior Building Systems Technician, a crucial role within the facility's maintenance team. This full-time position involves working 40 hours per week, typically scheduled during afternoon to late evening shifts, with pay between $26.30 and $40.98 per hour based on union contracts, supplemented by shift differentials and overtime opportunities.

The Senior Building Systems Technician role focuses on maintaining and supporting critical patient care areas such as the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units (including Pediatric and Neonatal), Transplant Units, Cath Labs, Psychiatric and Complex Intervention Units, Labor and Delivery, and specialized facilities like the Heliport, Chapel, and Convent. The technician will play an integral part in supporting the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), ensuring that all building infrastructure systems operate flawlessly to maintain a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

The technician’s responsibilities include operating, maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing complex mechanical and electronic building systems. These systems encompass air handling equipment, fire alarms, building automation systems, fluid pumping systems for heating and cooling, security card access, refrigeration and freezer alarms, boilers, and other critical electronic systems. Routine preventative maintenance tasks such as belt replacement, lubrication, filter changes, and pressure washing inside air handling equipment are also key components of this role. The technician must respond promptly to emergency repair calls, communicate effectively with maintenance shops and on-call staff, and collaborate with various teams to plan and schedule modifications and repairs that minimize disruptions while respecting budget constraints.

Success in this role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong human relations abilities to interact respectfully and supportively with staff, patients, and visitors. Additionally, this position provides guidance to maintenance and security personnel on facility-related issues, emphasizing leadership and problem-solving capabilities. The workplace requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate overtime, absences, holidays, and training sessions, including occasional weekend work.

This position requires an Associate's degree or similar technical education in a building infrastructure maintenance program, or an equivalent combination of military experience. Electrical or plumbing licenses are advantageous, and a Minnesota Special Engineer Boilers License is mandatory or must be obtained within six months.
