Job Description
Keeneland Association, known for its rich heritage in thoroughbred horse racing and sales, is a renowned organization located in Lexington, Kentucky. Established in 1936, Keeneland has built a reputation as a prestigious venue dedicated to the sport of horse racing and the thoroughbred industry. The association not only hosts high-quality racing events but also facilitates premier auctions for racehorses, making it a central hub for industry professionals and enthusiasts alike. Keeneland prides itself on maintaining excellence in customer service, facility management, and providing a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors, participants, and staff.
Working at Keeneland means being part of a team committed to upholding these standards, ensuring every aspect of the venue meets the highest levels of cleanliness and safety. The Bath House Attendant role is a vital position within Keeneland’s operational staff, directly contributing to the facility's maintenance and guest satisfaction. This role is full-time and plays an essential part in creating a hygienic and comfortable environment for jockeys, trainers, staff members, and visitors who utilize the bathhouse and adjacent areas.
As a Bath House Attendant at Keeneland, your responsibilities extend beyond routine cleaning; you will ensure that all bathhouse facilities, including showers, locker rooms, toilets, sinks, and floors, are meticulously sanitized and maintained according to stringent health and safety standards. You will handle restocking of essential supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, ensuring these items are readily available at all times. Regular maintenance duties include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting surfaces, emptying trash receptacles, and reporting any maintenance issues promptly, facilitating swift repairs to preserve facility integrity.
This role requires the use and upkeep of cleaning equipment, adherence to safety protocols including personal protective equipment use, and the flexibility to assist in custodial duties in surrounding areas like hallways and entryways. The Bath House Attendant is also instrumental in supporting racetrack operations by preparing the bathhouse before and after racing events, contributing to smooth event management and a positive experience for all involved.
Ideal candidates will have prior janitorial or custodial experience, preferably with locker room or similar facility cleaning, and a strong capability to work independently and efficiently manage their time. Physical stamina is crucial, as the position involves lifting moderately heavy items and performing various physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Flexibility to work during weekends and race days is a must, as is possessing a valid driver’s license required to operate a motor vehicle in the absence of the Bathhouse Lead.
This position also requires compliance with Kentucky Horse Racing Commission regulations, including holding a valid license. Keeneland offers a dynamic and respectful work environment where employees’ safety and well-being are prioritized, including reasonable accommodations for those with disabilities. Workers in this role will encounter varying environmental conditions, from exposure to cleaning chemicals and airborne particles to occasional outdoor weather challenges and operational noise. Keeneland encourages a team-oriented approach with clear communication, ensuring that employees understand their duties and the impact they have on the overall success of the racing and equine industry events conducted at the facility.
