Job Description

This position is offered by a vibrant and dynamic university campus hospitality establishment, dedicated to providing a high-energy, welcoming, and safe hospitality experience for a diverse community including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local patrons. The university prides itself on fostering an inclusive environment that represents the campus culture while meeting the highest standards of service. As part of the campus community, this venue blends educational and social experiences, making it an exciting place for both employees and patrons to connect and engage.

The role itself centers on the vital function of bartending within this busy and varied setting. The selected individual will be responsible for managing food service with a particular focus on efficient and knowledgeable drink execution. This includes preparing and serving a selection of craft beers, wines, ciders, spirits, and specialty cocktails and mocktails, adhering strictly to recipe and pour standards. An exceptional level of customer service is essential, requiring the bartender to maintain a pleasant, professional demeanor while engaging with diverse campus guests.

Key responsibilities also involve strict adherence to state alcohol laws and university policies, encompassing accurate age identification, responsible service, and overall safety and compliance to foster a secure environment. The role demands proficiency in operating the Point of Sale system with speed and accuracy, handling multiple payment types including cash, credit cards, and campus meal cards, while ensuring financial transactions are processed correctly and discounts applied appropriately.

Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation at the bar is another crucial aspect of this job. Employees will ensure the bar area, including glassware and tools, is immaculate throughout the shift. Responsibilities extend to managing inventory restocks, assisting with keg changes and draft system troubleshooting, and performing opening and closing duties to keep the operation running smoothly.

The ideal candidate is at least 21 years old to legally serve alcohol, holds or is able to obtain an active alcohol server certification such as TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol, and brings a minimum of one year of experience in a high-volume bartending or barback role. Availability to work flexible hours, including late nights, weekends, and special campus events like Homecoming, game days, and graduation, is necessary.

Preferred qualifications include a basic knowledge of craft beer and draft systems, and experience managing transactions involving dual-payment systems. Physical stamina is important as the position requires standing, walking, and bending for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs safely, and assisting with keg handling up to 165 lbs using proper safety measures.

The position offers a competitive wage ranging from $15.00 to $30.00 per hour, reflecting experience and performance, along with attractive benefits such as employee discounts, paid training, and flexible scheduling options. Working primarily on night and day shifts in person at a lively campus location, this job is a perfect fit for individuals passionate about hospitality and community engagement within a collegiate environment.
