Job Description

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is a renowned culinary destination located in the vibrant Monterey area, recognized for its exceptional dining experiences and diverse offerings. The establishment prides itself on providing guests with a unique blend of three distinct dining environments: a full-service dining room, a lively bar and lounge, and an inviting al fresco dining patio. At the heart of Salt Wood Kitchen is the experiential oyster bar and a central live-fire kitchen which together create a warm and engaging atmosphere, blending traditional culinary arts with contemporary flair. This setting is perfect for a variety of occasions, from casual cocktails enjoyed on the patio to grand celebrations hosted in multifunctional meeting spaces and private dining rooms. Salt Wood Kitchen operates under the umbrella of HHM Hotels, a group that emphasizes equal opportunity employment and fair treatment in the workplace, embracing diversity and inclusion as core company values. They maintain a non-discriminatory policy towards all applicants and employees based on race, gender, identity, age, disability, and other protected categories by law.

The Bartender role at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is pivotal to the guest experience, requiring a blend of professional bartending skills, excellent customer service, and adherence to safety and organizational standards. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who thrive in dynamic hospitality settings and are passionate about mixology and delivering high-quality service. The bartender is responsible for serving beverages and food in a friendly, courteous, and timely manner to ensure guests achieve a high level of satisfaction. This role also offers a well-defined career progression path, starting from Bartender to Beverage Manager, Restaurant Supervisor, Restaurant Manager, and ultimately Food & Beverage Manager. The position not only requires practical skills such as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of bar areas, preparing and serving drink and food orders, and handling the payment process but also entails more nuanced responsibilities such as verifying customer age for alcohol purchase, managing intoxicated guests, and participating in inventory and sustainability practices.

In addition to the operational duties, the bartender must adhere to safety guidelines including the use of protective equipment and compliance with OSHA standards. The role demands physical stamina, as it involves standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 pounds, and performing repetitive motions such as bending and reaching. Applicants are expected to have previous bartending or mixology experience, preferably with certifications such as TIPS and a Food Sanitation certificate, which must be obtained within 90 days of employment if not already held. This position requires flexibility in work hours, including holidays, weekends, and various shifts, thereby appealing to individuals comfortable with a varied schedule. The bartender at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is not only a service provider but also an ambassador of the restaurant's commitment to excellence, guest satisfaction, and operational efficiency, embodying the values of "People Are Our Capability," "Hearts That Serve," and "Only Excellence."
