The role of a Bar Server at La Tropical is pivotal in maintaining the high standards guests expect from this bustling taproom. This position requires an individual with thorough knowledge of La Tropical's menus and beer offerings, capable of providing exceptional service and fostering positive interactions with all guests. Ideal candidates have a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role, preferably in high-volume restaurant or pub settings. The Bar Server is responsible for greeting guests enthusiastically, taking and preparing beverage orders following the taproom's standard recipes, and ensuring that all drink orders are recorded accurately in the POS system. Beyond beverage service, the role involves maintaining an attractive and functional bar environment, managing inventory, and ensuring a sanitary and welcoming atmosphere throughout the bar area.

This dynamic position demands someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Candidates should possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, demonstrate mature judgment, and exhibit a genuine hospitable demeanor. Physical stamina is essential, as the role involves standing for prolonged periods, lifting up to 60 pounds, and performing various physical tasks such as carrying, bending, and stretching. A responsible attitude toward beverage service is mandatory, with certification requirements including a Responsible Beverage Service Certificate and a Food Handler Certificate, along with a willingness to complete Beer Server Cicerone Training.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • prior service experience in a high-volume restaurant or pub required

  • basic math skills to handle cash, give change, and balance cash drawer

Job Duties

  • Greets guests in an enthusiastic and friendly manner
  • take beverage orders from guests and servers
  • prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with the taproom's standard drink recipes
  • learns the names and personally recognizes our regulars
  • record drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt into the POS system
  • accept guest payment, process credit card charges and make change if applicable
  • wash and sterilize glassware
  • receive bar orders and stock accordingly
  • accountable for opening and closing duties as prescribed
  • prepare prep, for example, garnishes for drinks, restock straws, beverage napkins, silverware roll-ups, etc
  • maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation and promotion of beverages
  • maintain stocking of everything needed for service at the bar, for example, ice, bottles, glassware, garnishes, etc
  • present all menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding F&B
  • maintain cleanliness in all areas of the bar including, counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, storage areas, floors, floorboards, POS systems
  • maintain sanitary environment throughout the entire bar
  • clear and reset tables in bar area
  • report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to restaurant manager
  • provide a genuinely hospitable experience
