Job Description
The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) stands as the premier nonprofit culinary and hospitality training institute in the United States. Dedicated to transforming lives through education, CALV's mission focuses on equipping individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in Las Vegas' bustling hospitality industry. By offering comprehensive vocational training programs, CALV plays a crucial role in alleviating poverty and combating unemployment among youth, adults, and displaced workers. The academy's commitment to community betterment extends beyond instruction to fostering workforce readiness and providing pathways to sustainable careers.
CALV specializes in culinary arts and hospitality education, ensuring its students are workforce-ready and capable of meeting industry demands. The institution leverages experienced educators and practical training environments to create immersive learning experiences that bridge classroom theory with real-world application. Students graduating from CALV benefit from a curriculum rooted in current industry standards, experiential learning, and comprehensive skill development.
The role of the On-Call Adjunct Instructor – Food & Beverage at CALV is a vital part of this educational mission. The instructor is responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality instruction that encompasses both practical skills and theoretical knowledge related to food and beverage services. This role requires a dynamic educator who can effectively communicate with a diverse student body, utilizing various teaching methodologies to meet learning objectives and enhance student competencies. In addition to standard classes, the instructor may also be involved in continued education courses or special projects, contributing to the expanded learning opportunities for students.
This position is designed for professionals with strong food and beverage expertise and a passion for teaching. As an adjunct instructor, the individual plays a key role in preparing students for successful careers in the hospitality sector by instilling practical skills and industry best practices. The position demands a balance of instructional capability and administrative efficiency, as instructors document attendance, perform evaluations, and maintain grade records to track student progress.
Compliance with local, state, and national food safety regulations is paramount in this role. The adjunct instructor is expected to model and enforce stringent food safety protocols, ensuring a safe and professional learning environment. CALV seeks candidates who possess a high school diploma coupled with at least two years of experience in a coffee shop or restaurant operation, reflecting the practical knowledge necessary to guide students effectively. Candidates with experience working with diverse learners and basic computer skills are preferred, highlighting the inclusive and technologically integrated nature of the instruction.
The On-Call nature of this position offers flexibility while providing the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the educational journey of CALV students. By joining CALV as an adjunct instructor, educators become part of a transformative mission that extends beyond teaching—it positively impacts the Las Vegas community by fostering economic opportunity and professional development through skilled hospitality training.
