We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Barista to join the Food Service team at UT Southwestern. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the daily experience of our patients, visitors, and staff through quality beverage service and customer engagement. The Barista will be responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks and food items, managing cash register operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, customer-centric setting and embody professionalism and teamwork in their daily duties.

As a Barista at UT Southwestern, you will uphold the highest standards of service by crafting expertly prepared espresso-based beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos, while providing friendly and informative customer interactions. Job Duties

  • Completes and maintains all job performance requirements and standards as established in the employee handbook and Position Time and Duties
  • Maintains and promotes a positive work environment with both internal and external customers
  • Promotes sales by educating customers and explaining drink menu
  • answering questions
  • Sets up cash register
  • receives and verifies cash till
  • counts operating cash and places in register
  • logs off of register every time the cashier steps away
  • Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks such as espresso, caffe latte, and cappuccino
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions
  • troubleshooting breakdowns
  • maintaining supplies
  • performing preventative maintenance
  • Maintains required records, statistics, particularly those involved in cashiering such as register tapes
  • adheres to cash handling guidelines
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following sanitation and organization regulations
  • Serves beverages and prepared food like cookies, pastries, hot food items, and muffins
  • follows HACCP guidelines
  • Attends in-service meetings and other required training and meetings as directed
  • Completes Taleo within allotted timeframe
  • Reports defective equipment or supplies, cashiering problems and unusual conditions to supervisor
  • alerts supervisor to customer issues and complaints
  • maintains a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Assures safety and sanitation guidelines are met by keeping work area appropriately cleaned and promptly addressing issues which might compromise safety such as wet floors
  • Performs other duties as assigned
