Job Description

Arapahoe Libraries is a forward-thinking and inclusive public library system dedicated to enriching lives and strengthening community ties through knowledge, culture, and connection. With multiple branches serving diverse populations, Arapahoe Libraries fosters a welcoming environment that encourages lifelong learning, innovation, and equity for all patrons. The organization is committed to collaboration and the power of curiosity, offering a range of programs and services designed to inspire exploration and discovery in a safe, supportive setting. Their mission, embodied in the motto "Let's Find Out," reflects a passion for connecting people, ideas, and experiences that nurture growth and community engagement.

The Smoky Hill Library, one of Arapahoe’s vibrant branches, is seeking three part-time Barista - Library Specialist hybrid employees to join their team. This unique blended role offers an exciting blend of café service and library support, perfectly suited for individuals who thrive in dynamic, customer-oriented environments. Part-time employees will work 30 hours per week, split between preparing and serving high-quality beverages and food items at the café, and assisting library patrons on the floor. Approximately 75% of the time is spent behind the café counter where fast, friendly, and accurate service is critical, especially during busy periods. The remaining 25% of time is devoted to providing knowledgeable assistance to patrons, supporting literacy and learning through technology help, reference support, and materials handling.

This position is ideal for those who enjoy variety in their workday, appreciate working collaboratively as part of a team, and take pride in creating positive experiences for a diverse range of community members. Employees are expected to manage transactions with efficiency and accuracy, maintain high standards of food safety and cleanliness, and contribute to the library’s mission by promoting resources, events, and programs that enrich patrons’ lives. The role requires adaptability, patience, and strong communication skills to connect authentically with patrons and colleagues. Beyond the daily duties, specialists also have opportunities to participate in community initiatives, support volunteer programs, and engage in activities that foster an inclusive and equitable environment.

Arapahoe Libraries values employees who are dependable, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and embody the organization's core values of collaboration, equity, and innovation. Flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends is necessary. Previous customer service experience and intermediate technology skills such as Microsoft 365 proficiency are essential to succeed in this position. Preferred candidates may have experience in beverage or food preparation, point-of-sale transaction handling, or working with youth demographics.

Joining Arapahoe Libraries means being part of a vibrant and supportive community dedicated to service and kindness. It is not just a job, but a chance to help connect people with information and experiences that inspire and empower. If you are enthusiastic, adaptable, and motivated by helping others while working with an engaged team, the Barista - Library Specialist at Smoky Hill Library offers an enriching opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community.
