Job Description
Joe Coffee Company is a well-established specialty coffee company that was founded in 2003 by Jonathan Rubinstein in Manhattan's West Village. Starting as a single coffee shop, Joe Coffee has grown significantly over the years and now operates 23 cafes across New York, along with its own roastery in Long Island City. Known for a deep commitment to quality, hospitality, and education, Joe Coffee remains a pioneering force in the artisan coffee movement. The company focuses on offering exceptional coffee experiences by blending the art of coffee brewing with a warm and welcoming environment for its community. Joe Coffee invests heavily in industry-leading training programs and places great emphasis on the professional growth and long-term success of its team members. The company fosters an inclusive work culture and encourages diversity, ensuring that all team members feel respected and valued. Joe Coffee is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity employer, dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations and creating an inclusive work atmosphere for all employees, regardless of background or identity.
The role of Barista in Training (BIT) at Joe Coffee is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are curious and motivated to deepen their knowledge of specialty coffee and develop their skills to become certified Joe Coffee baristas. This role offers a starting compensation of $17 per hour plus tips, and it is designed to support the foundational growth of new team members in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Baristas in Training are integral to the daily operations of the café, providing outstanding customer service that aligns with Joe Coffee's hospitality standards. These individuals will learn to prepare various beverages including drip coffee, cold brew, tea, matcha, and seasonal drinks, as well as handle point-of-sale operations such as order entry, cash handling, and payment processing. Additionally, the role requires maintaining cleanliness and organization in the café while adhering to food safety standards.
Beyond the hands-on role in the café, Baristas in Training will engage in continuous learning through training sessions, coaching, and constructive feedback aimed at preparing them for full barista certification. Joe Coffee values a collaborative team environment where reliability, friendliness, and the ability to work at a fast pace are essential traits. This role is perfect for those who are passionate about coffee, eager to learn, and dedicated to delivering thoughtful and inclusive customer service. The company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance after a qualifying period, 401(k) retirement with employer match, paid education opportunities, mentorship programs, and unique perks such as origin trips to coffee-growing regions and community-building events. Joe Coffee's commitment to employee development and well-being makes this position not only a job but a career-building opportunity for those interested in growing within the specialty coffee industry.
