The position available is for a Barista I at the UC Health Memorial Hospital North, a critical healthcare location served by Sodexo’s food service team. This part-time role offers weekend shifts including afternoon, evening, and overnight hours, with pay ranging from $19.50 to $21.84 per hour. As a Barista I, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding customer service and creating high-quality handcrafted beverages that brighten the day of hospital visitors, patients, and staff.

In this role, you will greet guests warmly and provide swift, personalized service to ensure a welcoming atmosphere. Your responsibilities will include mixing and preparing hot and cold beverages, from classic coffee and espresso drinks to specialty teas and fruit blends, all while carefully considering customer preferences. Maintaining good customer relations and ensuring fast delivery of beverages and any accompanying food items will be part of your daily routine.

You will also take an active role in educating guests about menu options and promoting additional products through suggestive selling, enhancing their overall experience. Presentation matters, so arranging supplies and display items attractively at the coffee bar or cart is essential. Maintaining cleanliness by regularly cleaning coffee machines, preparation areas, and service spaces will ensure a hygienic environment aligned with health and safety standards.

Accuracy in sales recording, cash handling, and register operation are critical duties, alongside the physical requirement to be on your feet for long periods often exceeding 8 hours. This includes the ability to lift, push, pull and carry weights up to 35 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Reliability in attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts is mandatory in this fast-paced, customer-facing position.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Customer service related work experience
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, standards, and inventory control systems
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, or pull
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Customer service related work experience
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, standards, and inventory control systems
  • Starbucks baristas may be required to be certified

Job Duties

  • Greet all guests and provide quick, friendly, and personalized service
  • Mix and serve hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, cafe latte, tea, chai, fruit blend drinks, considering customer specifications
  • Maintain good customer relations and speedy delivery of all beverages and food items
  • Educate guests regarding menu offerings and initiate suggestive selling
  • Arrange coffee bar/cart supplies and cups/mugs to make attractive displays
  • Clean coffee machines, restaurant areas, and preparation areas
  • Record all sales, collect money, operate a cash register, and follow all cash-handling procedures
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time throughout the shift
  • Reach, bend, stoop, push, or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned depending on business necessities and client requirements
