The role of Barista at 21c Museum Hotels is more than just preparing coffee and tea; it is about being an enthusiastic ambassador who embodies the spirit and values of the brand. Reporting directly to Restaurant Managers and the Director of Food & Beverage, the Barista plays a crucial role in enhancing guest experiences by providing outstanding beverage service and knowledgeable recommendations. This role is designed for a person who enjoys engaging with guests, making personalized recommendations based on subtle verbal and non-verbal cues, and driving sales not only through coffee and tea offerings but also through the promotion of the on-site gift shop merchandise.

The job requires the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and demands strong communication skills, dependability, and a professional appearance. The Barista is entrusted with multiple responsibilities, including preparation of drink orders according to specific recipes, managing point-of-sale transactions, maintaining cleanliness and inventory of service and gift shop stations, and assisting with room service to hotel guests.
With a focus on salesmanship and customer engagement, the Barista helps amplify the overall guest experience at the restaurant and hotel by promoting menu items and merchandise enthusiastically. This role is integral to the hospitality experience at 21c, as it represents the face of the venue for many visitors. Candidates for this role should exhibit passion for the brand’s mission and demonstrate a courteous and positive attitude at all times. Additionally, this position requires adherence to all sanitation and safety guidelines, responsible alcohol service practices, and the ability to work as part of a team.
The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to carry a full-service tray, stand and walk for long periods, and lift up to 25 pounds, making it suitable for those with the necessary physical endurance. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with preference given to those who have experience in breakfast restaurants, coffee shops, or retail environments. Job Duties
- report to work on time and ready to work scheduled shifts
- follow all steps of service
- know drink names, ingredients, method of preparation, appropriate glassware, and garnishes
- speak confidently and enthusiastically on gift shop items
- make all coffee and tea drinks on the menu with enthusiasm and care
- sell menu items and gift shop items with the goal of increasing overall sales
- serve beverages and food in a cheerful and efficient manner
