It also boasts a 2,000-square-foot outdoor patio, perfect for guests who enjoy fresh air while socializing. The establishment prides itself on delivering an elevated dining and beverage experience with a menu filled with made-from-scratch dishes and expertly crafted cocktails. Beyond its culinary offerings, Sports & Social Bethesda is known for its lively atmosphere created by frequent live music performances and special events throughout the week. The venue also promotes fun and engagement through a broad variety of interactive social games that cater to all types of guests, making it an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts and social gatherings alike.

The Barback position at Sports & Social Bethesda is a crucial support role within the bar team, dedicated to maintaining an efficient and welcoming environment behind the bar. This role is perfect for energetic and enthusiastic individuals who enjoy fast-paced settings and teamwork while maintaining a professional demeanor. Responsibilities include assisting with basic bar prep work such as refilling ice bins, restocking beer and liquor supplies, and preparing garnishes. The Barback is also tasked with managing keg changes in the keg room, which involves handling heavy items safely. Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the bar area is key, including promptly cleaning spills, emptying trash, and ensuring all glassware and drinkware are orderly. Time management skills are important, as barbacks are expected to clear and clean the bar area efficiently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective communication with coworkers and guests is essential, combining politeness, professionalism, and a friendly attitude that contributes to the overall positive guest experience. This is a tipped position, offering an hourly wage of $4.00 plus tips, and the opportunity to work in a vibrant and engaging sports bar environment that values its team members and customers.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least age 18 or older, depending on state regulations
  • Food service experience with general knowledge of bar/nightclub operations
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency
  • Ability to handle, carry or lift items weighing up to 200 pounds
  • Ability to move about the facility efficiently and safely
  • Ability to handle food, objects, products and utensils effectively and safely
  • Ability to bend, stand, stoop, kneel
  • Ability to withstand potential climate temperature changes in assigned work area
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Food service experience with general knowledge of bar/nightclub operations
  • Must speak fluent English, other languages preferred
  • Must be at least age 18 or older, depending on state regulations
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with guests, cooks, wait staff, and supervisors
  • Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government agency
  • Reading and writing abilities are utilized often when taking orders, completing paperwork, etc
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math are used frequently
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Duties

  • Show that you are an energetic, outgoing, fun person while maintaining professionalism
  • Perform basic prep work behind the bar: refilling ice bins, restocking beer/liquor, cutting garnishes
  • Change empty kegs in keg room, including moving full kegs of beer
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy environment by cleaning up spills and emptying trash cans
  • Organizes bar and drink ware
  • Clear and clean bar in a timely manner
  • Perform more than one task at a time
  • Offer polite, professional, and courteous customer service
  • Communicate effectively, clearly, patiently and humorously with co-workers and guests
  • Complete all side work as assigned
