Job Description
Founded in 1869, the San Francisco Yacht Club stands as one of the premier yachting facilities in the United States, renowned for its rich history, exceptional amenities, and dedication to providing an exclusive and memorable experience for its members. Located in the picturesque Belvedere Tiburon, CA, the club offers a unique waterfront setting where members can enjoy a vibrant social scene alongside their passion for boating and sailing. The club prides itself on maintaining a high standard of service and hospitality, fostering a welcoming environment where members and guests can relax and celebrate special occasions or simply enjoy the beauty of the bay.
The San Francisco Yacht Club is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Bar Manager to join their esteemed team on a full-time basis. This role offers a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $90,000 annually, dependent on experience, along with an attractive benefits package including paid time off, paid holidays, healthcare benefits, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions. This position is classified as exempt and reports directly to the Clubhouse Manager. The Bar Manager will oversee all facets of the bar and beverage program, ensuring an exceptional member and guest experience through expert service, staff management, and operational excellence.
As the Bar Manager, you will play a critical hands-on role in managing the bar operations, directing bartenders, and collaborating closely with the Clubhouse Manager and Culinary team to guarantee smooth and timely service during a diverse array of club events, banquets, and a la carte service. Your expertise in mixology, beverage trends, and staff leadership will be essential in maintaining a welcoming and engaging atmosphere behind the bar while delivering outstanding service to members. You will oversee beverage offerings, updating menus, managing inventory, and ensuring that all aspects of the program meet the club's high standards.
This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include creating and managing bartender schedules, ensuring compliance with workplace rules and safety standards, conducting training and development for bartending staff, and handling member and guest interactions with professionalism and care. Additionally, you will be the manager on duty at times, supporting front desk operations when necessary and addressing any issues that arise to maintain seamless operations.
The ideal candidate will possess at least four years of progressive responsibility in the food and beverage industry, with a minimum of two years in personnel management, preferably within a private club setting. A strong knowledge of beverages—particularly wine—and certifications such as WSET Level 3 are preferred. Experience with California labor laws and a solid track record of exemplary customer service are essential. Your ability to communicate effectively, solve problems swiftly, and foster a positive team environment will drive success in this dynamic role.
By joining the San Francisco Yacht Club, you become part of a historic institution committed to excellence and tradition. This position offers a rewarding career path with opportunities for professional growth while working in a prestigious and scenic waterfront venue. If you have a passion for hospitality, leadership, and creating unparalleled guest experiences, this Bar Manager position is an exciting opportunity to showcase your skills and contribute to one of California's most respected yacht clubs.
