Job Description

Located in the vibrant Meatpacking District of New York City, The Standard, High Line, rises above the city’s iconic elevated train line that has transformed into a popular public park. The hotel boasts 338 rooms with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. Its energizing public spaces include a German beer garden, the famed rooftop discotheque Le Bain, the legendary Top of The Standard lounge, and an inviting outdoor plaza featuring rotating art installations. The Standard Grill offers guests a classic New York dining experience with a menu combining traditional steakhouse and New American cuisine.

The Standard is currently seeking a diligent Bar Back to join its dynamic team. This role is vital in supporting bartenders and ensuring the bar operates smoothly and efficiently. The Bar Back's responsibilities include the complete setup of the bar area before service, maintaining stock of all beverages and supplies during shifts, and assisting in bar breakdown at closing time. The role demands a strong organizational ability, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in bar or hospitality environment preferred
  • ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours
  • ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • ability to perform physical activities including bending, kneeling, stretching
  • basic proficiency in English
  • punctuality and reliability
  • ability to follow instructions accurately
  • excellent interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Main par level stocks and assist bartender whenever necessary
  • open and set up bar including stocking liquor bottles
  • stock all glassware and ashtrays
  • fill all ice wells with ice
  • maintain and upkeep inventory of fruits, juices, water, beer, liquor, garnishes, coffee/tea, silverware, napkins, salt & pepper, and other bar related items
  • stock all paper and plastic needs for bar such as napkins, straws, stirrers and micros paper
  • make sure the bar is neat and clean at all times
  • perform other duties as requested per manager or bartender
