The University of Houston Athletics department is dedicated to supporting the university's sports teams, including the Cougars football team, by delivering high-quality services and enhancing the game-day experience for fans and attendees.

The University of Houston Athletics is currently seeking a full-time Bar Back to join their team. This position plays a vital role in the efficient operation of bar services during home football games and other events at Cougar Athletics venues. The Bar Back will be responsible for supporting bartenders by maintaining beverage inventory, ensuring bar cleanliness, and providing excellent service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Working under a game-day schedule, shifts may vary depending on the event start times and typically include morning or afternoon/evening hours.

This role requires hands-on knowledge of bar setup, service standards, and preparation techniques for multiple alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The Bar Back will be instrumental in ensuring that the bar is well-stocked with liquor, beer, wine, snacks, and garnishes, and that all bar equipment such as beer taps are functioning properly. The position demands strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to perform physical tasks including stocking, cleaning, bussing tables, and supporting bartenders with beverage preparation.

The successful candidate will also contribute to maintaining a welcoming and clean environment in the bar or lounge areas by performing side work such as washing down work surfaces, sweeping, mopping, and managing waste disposal. Additional duties include retrieving food and beverage items from kitchens and storerooms, assisting with opening and closing procedures, and performing other related tasks as assigned. This role is essential to the overall fan experience during home football games, providing prompt and professional bar service that meets the expectations of guests and adheres to all university and safety standards.

The University of Houston Athletics offers competitive wages and comprehensive benefits for full-time employees. Benefits include opportunities for training and development, retirement plans, health and wellness programs, and more. The position provides a chance to work in a supportive team environment where the contributions of each staff member are valued and where employees are empowered to make a difference on campus. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic sports environment, possess strong customer service skills, and are enthusiastic about providing excellent bar services at a major university athletic venue.

Candidates interested in applying can do so online and should be prepared to work on the specified game days in the 2026 football season.
