The Banquets Manager role at Odessa Marriott Hotel is a critical leadership position responsible for the efficient operation of the Banquet Department. This role demands a strong focus on cost control while delivering exceptional guest service during all banquet and event functions. The manager oversees every aspect of banquets including set-up, service, and cleanup, ensuring that events run smoothly and meet the quality standards expected by guests and the hotel. In addition to managing the physical and logistical aspects of banquets, the Banquets Manager also plays a pivotal role in the recruitment, hiring, training, coaching, and disciplining of banquet staff, including captains and hourly employees.
As an exempt associate, the Banquets Manager is expected to dedicate as much time as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities, regularly directing the work of at least three full-time associates or equivalent staff members. The position requires performing administrative, executive, and professional duties more than 50 percent of the time, utilizing discretion and independent judgment regularly. This management role demands effective communication and coordination with various departments, particularly food and beverage, to align banquet activities with overall hotel operations. The Banquets Manager is also responsible for maintaining safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards within banquet service areas, fostering a safe and efficient workplace. Additionally, this role includes handling payroll, scheduling, tip distribution, inventory control, and loss prevention efforts within the department. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years banquet or event management experience
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Must be able to lift and move banquet equipment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Valid food handlers certification
- Compliance with certification requirements such as TABC, Alcohol Awareness, CPR and First Aid
- Must be available to direct work of multiple staff members regularly

Job Duties
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented manner
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with hotel standards
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming including proper uniform and name tag
- Comply with hotel standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Prepare schedules and wage progress reports for banquet employees
- Assist in setup, service and breakdown of banquet functions
- Coordinate banquet related food and beverage requirements with appropriate departments
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate banquet personnel
- Review menu and service with Catering Manager or Sales designee
- Maintain up to date details on banquet functions and communicate to supervisors
- Provide ongoing training to captains and hourly employees
- Respond to guests' requests
- Prepare banquet checks and manage payment procedures
- Requisition liquor and supplies for banquet bars
- Ensure safety, sanitation and cleanliness of service areas
- Implement loss prevention programs
- Attend meetings to ensure communication between departments
- Participate in manager on duty coverage
- Conduct menu classes for staff development
- Maintain professional relationships with managers and other departments
- Control and audit beverage inventory
- Review staff hours for payroll
- Supervise banquet captains and service personnel
- Assist with special promotions or changes
- Manage service equipment and write service requests
- Cross train as necessary in other food and beverage outlets
- Assist audio/visual companies
- Operate point of sale system
- Report hazards to safety committee
- Manage supply orders and inventory
- Handle lost and found items
- Perform other duties as assigned
