The Westin Tempe is currently seeking a full-time Banquet Sous Chef to join its Culinary Team. This pivotal role involves delivering superior food and beverage service to guests in a friendly, courteous, timely, and professional manner, underscoring the hotel's commitment to excellence and guest satisfaction. The Banquet Sous Chef will assist in the coordination, planning, supervision, and execution of the production, plating, and presentation of food for all banquet events. This position requires maintaining high standards of food quality and safety while managing costs effectively. The Banquet Sous Chef plays a vital role in contributing to the success of banquet events by ensuring that customer expectations are met and exceeded, thus attracting future business. Job Requirements

  • Two to three full years of full employment in a related position
  • Thorough knowledge of the catering and food profession
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures and the ability to determine course of action based on these guidelines
  • Supervision/management skills
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times
  • Ability to communicate well with guests
  • Willingness to pitch in and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts
  • Basic mathematical skills and considerable skill in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error
  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform in the banquet kitchen
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
  • Ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, customers and patrons

  • Assist in the coordination, planning and supervision of the production, plating and presentation of food at all banquet events
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented in a cost-effective and safe manner
  • Meet and exceed customer expectations for banquet events
  • Service food and beverages to guests in a friendly, courteous, timely, and professional manner
  • Contribute to attracting future business through excellent service
  • Assist in managing and training banquet kitchen staff
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
