The Banquet Captain position at Ember Kitchen is a crucial leadership role that oversees the successful execution of catered events and hospitality functions. This role requires an individual who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities with ease. The Banquet Captain serves as the on-site event leader, responsible for ensuring that all event spaces are professionally prepared, visually appealing, staffed appropriately, and executed according to Ember Kitchen's high hospitality standards.

The role entails coordinating event setup and breakdown processes, supervising Banquet Attendants and other event support staff, managing event supplies and beverage service preparation, and acting as the primary point of contact during assigned events. A successful Banquet Captain must possess strong leadership skills to provide direction, training, and ongoing support to event staff while promoting a positive and professional work environment. They must maintain seamless communication with kitchen staff, managers, and event hosts to ensure smooth, timely, and efficient event operations.

In addition to hands-on leadership during events, the Banquet Captain is responsible for reviewing banquet event orders, arranging event aesthetics such as tables, linens, decor, signage, and food and beverage stations. They carefully oversee the replenishment of food and beverage items, maintain professionalism throughout the event, and handle guest inquiries and any service challenges promptly and professionally. After events, the Banquet Captain ensures that event spaces are returned to their original condition through proper cleanup and equipment storage along with inventory management and reporting of any shortages or maintenance issues.

This position also supports the Corporate Catering Manager and management team with preparations for future events, maintains accurate records related to events and inventory, and participates in training programs and company initiatives. The work environment is fast-paced and diverse, including corporate dining facilities, conference rooms, customer dining areas, outdoor locations, kitchens, and off-site venues. Physical demands include lifting and moving equipment as well as the ability to stand and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of one year experience in catering, banquet service, hospitality, food service, or event operations
  • strong leadership and organizational skills

  • ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work for extended periods
  • availability to work flexible schedules including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of one year experience in catering, banquet service, hospitality, food service, or event operations
  • strong leadership and organizational skills
  • excellent customer service and communication abilities
  • ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
  • previous experience as banquet captain, lead server, catering supervisor, or similar hospitality leadership role preferred
  • experience with corporate dining, business catering, and special events preferred
  • knowledge of banquet service standards and event setup procedures preferred

Job Duties

  • Review banquet event orders and event diagrams prior to each event
  • coordinate and execute event setup according to standards and client specifications
  • arrange tables, linens, décor, signage, food displays, beverage stations, and service areas
  • ensure all event spaces are clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing before guest arrival
  • create attractive food and beverage presentations
  • pull and prepare beverages, disposables, condiments, service ware, and other supplies
  • verify all event materials, equipment, and supplies are available and ready
  • serve as the onsite leader during assigned events
  • direct and supervise banquet attendants and event staff throughout setup, service, and breakdown
  • ensure events begin on time and follow timelines
  • monitor food and beverage stations and coordinate replenishment
  • maintain a professional and guest-focused atmosphere
  • address guest questions and service issues promptly
  • communicate effectively with kitchen staff, managers, and event hosts
  • provide direction, training, and support to banquet attendants and staff
  • delegate tasks and monitor performance
  • ensure staff follow company policies and safety standards
  • promote teamwork and professionalism
  • oversee event breakdown and cleanup activities
  • ensure equipment and supplies are properly cleaned, stored, and returned
  • assist with inventory management and restocking
  • report shortages, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns
  • maintain accurate event records and inventory logs
  • assist with preparation and organization of future events
  • support the corporate catering manager and management team
  • participate in staff meetings, training, and company initiatives
