The Banquet Captain position at Legends Global is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt role within the Food & Beverage department. This role is vital in ensuring the flawless execution and supervision of all catered events. The Banquet Captain oversees the entire event lifecycle, including setup, operation, and tear down, making sure every detail meets the high standards expected by the clients and Legends Global. Core to the position is managing the banquet and bar staff, training them on service excellence and professionalism, and guaranteeing that all operational aspects comply with Florida Health Codes and liquor laws.
This role requires someone who is detail-oriented with strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment for both staff and guests. The Banquet Captain is responsible for preparing staff assignments, inspecting uniforms, and enforcing food safety and handling protocols. They act as a liaison between clients and various departments, ensuring smooth event flow and satisfaction. Additionally, the position entails inventory management related to smallware equipment and perishables to guarantee adequate provisioning for upcoming events.
The candidate will also be required to adapt swiftly to changing circumstances during events, demonstrating flexibility and problem-solving skills while maintaining focus on service quality and safety. An understanding of formal table settings, service standards, and proficiency in tools like Microsoft Excel and Word is valuable. Job Requirements
- Four-year college degree in related hospitality field preferred
- At least two year’s experience in food and beverage
- Understanding of survey-based measures such as guest experience
- Understanding of food handling and storage as regulated by Florida Health Code
- Must be proficient in Excel and Word
- Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Must be able to perform physical demands such as lifting up to 20 lbs, standing for long periods, and manual dexterity
- Must pay attention to detail
- Must have excellent oral communication skills
- Must have strong customer service skills
- Must understand banquet captain responsibilities
- Must show competency in formal table settings and service steps
- Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands and unexpected events

Job Duties
- Directly responsible for supervising all catered events including setup, execution, and tear down
- Drive all components of event setup ensuring staff follow instructions and complete tasks on time
- Supervise and train banquet and bar staff on guest service standards and professionalism
- Conduct inspection of staff uniforms and appearances at the start of shifts
- Prepare and distribute staff assignments with timelines for event day tasks
- Maintain all timeframes, adjusting for changes during events for proper staff placement
- Establish and maintain positive client and interdepartmental relationships
- Submit requests for auxiliary needs to administrative or operational departments
- Manage smallware equipment usage, storage, damage documentation, and inventory
- Conduct inventory for rental and ordering of smallware, dry goods, and perishables
- Train and monitor staff on proper food handling techniques per Florida Health Code
- Ensure service areas are safe, clean, and free of obstructions
- Ensure compliance with Florida health codes and liquor laws
- Direct bar staff to have necessary tools and products in place
- Confirm bar paperwork accuracy and bartender awareness of service timeframes
- Assist with preparation and setup of event rooms when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
