The Role: The Banquet Captain position is an hourly role paying $18 per hour plus an administrative fee. Reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Manager, the Banquet Captain plays an essential leadership role in the execution of catered events. This position requires oversight and coordination of banquet staff and ensures that all event preparations meet the high standards expected at every venue. The Banquet Captain is responsible for organizing daily tasks, delegating duties, supervising event setup and service, and maintaining inventory and cleanliness in catering areas.
Success in this role demands excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple concurrent events in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Banquet Captain must also uphold health and safety standards, demonstrate strong guest service skills, and work collaboratively with other team members. Additionally, the role may include preparing beverages, handling cash or tickets, and ensuring compliance with all relevant food and beverage regulations. Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, are required to meet event demands. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three to five years of catering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be TIPS Food Handler Certified
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand, walk, push, and pull equipment for extended periods
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to perform repetitive eye/hand coordination tasks
- Must maintain proper grooming and dress standards
- Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency in a team environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-event setting
- Commitment to following food and beverage rules and safety regulations
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree preferred
- Bartending certification is an asset
- Three to five years catering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- TIPS Food Handler Certified
- Strong knowledge of sanitary practices
- Excellent skills in guest services and catering
- Ability to handle multiple events in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well with other staff members
- Understanding of food service industry practices
- Maintain proper grooming and dress code standards
- Demonstrate a positive and customer-oriented attitude
Job Duties
- Report to Food and Beverage Manager upon arrival to receive daily assignments
- Review designated Banquet Event Order(s) with Food & Beverage Manager
- Organize the day’s work and prepare to delegate tasks to banquet staff at the start of each shift
- Oversee event preparation and ensure that tasks are on schedule
- Help to control the misuse of linens, overuse of beverages and other banquet supplies
- Conduct pre-event meetings with banquet service staff
- Ensure that events are set at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time
- Maintain the proper set-up of service hallway to maximize efficiency of food service
- Supervise and assist with the service of food for each event
- Coordinate and monitor meal breaks for service staff
- Prepare post-event task list and ensure tasks are completed prior to relieving service staff
- Complete a Captain’s Report after each event
- Clear and clean all catering areas after each event
- Maintain organization of linen shelves and other catering equipment supplies
- Maintain cleanliness of all catering supplies and equipment
- Return all table-stand numbers to the Deco room in clean and orderly condition
- Report any areas in need of maintenance or repair to the Food & Beverage Manager
- Ensure that all catering cages are locked at the end of the shift
- Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary
- Report to Food & Beverage Personnel in appropriate uniform for assigned location
- Prepare all beverage items for sale in the station
- Receive and handle cash and/or tickets
- Follow all rules and regulations which apply to the beverage operations and SMG Food and Beverage Division
- Request identification for every guest purchasing alcohol
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Food Service Manager
