The role of Grocery Clerk in the Bakery/Deli department at Kroger is critical for creating outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service and maintaining a safe, clean environment that invites customers to return. This position actively supports department managers to achieve sales and profit goals while adhering to quality assurance standards. Associates in this role are expected to embrace Kroger's Customer 1st strategy by delivering excellent customer service and encouraging their peers to do the same. Responsibilities include preparing bakery and deli items with proper equipment, offering product samples, informing customers about promotions, ensuring correct portion sizes, and recommending items tailored to customer preferences. Associates must also manage food safety by following temperature logs and cooking instructions, properly packaging and labeling products, maintaining freshness by monitoring sell-by dates, and managing inventory accurately. Working knowledge of kitchen equipment like ovens, slicers, refrigerators, and fryers is essential to efficiently handle daily operations. The role also involves reporting ordering or shipping discrepancies, promoting trust and respect amongst team members, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and store safety procedures.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, basic math knowledge, and the ability to obtain a food handlers permit after employment. Prior experience in customer service, bakery or deli departments, and retail will be advantageous. Job Duties

  • Prepare bakery and deli items per customer requests using proper equipment

  • Use kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines
  • Prepare foods following temperature logs and cooking instructions
