Job Description

Smith's Food and Drug, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a well-established supermarket chain and a proud member of The Kroger Company family since its merger in 1998. With over 140 stores spread across Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, Smith's continues to serve its communities by providing high-quality food products and excellent customer service. As part of Kroger, one of the largest retail companies in the United States, Smith's Food and Drug embodies a commitment to innovation, diversity, and inclusion, all rooted in a shared mission to Feed the Human Spirit. This means going beyond just selling groceries—creating meaningful experiences for customers, associates, and communities alike. The Kroger family values respect, honesty, integrity, and safety, which are reflected in their operational principles and workplace culture.

The role at Smith's Food and Drug is designed to contribute significantly to this mission by delivering outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. This position supports department managers in achieving sales and profit goals while upholding established quality assurance standards. As an integral member of the store team, employees are expected to embrace the Customer 1st strategy, which focuses on exceptional customer service as the cornerstone of business success. The role not only involves direct interaction with customers but also encourages associates to embody the core values that Smith's and Kroger uphold, such as diversity and inclusion.

Employees in this position play a proactive role in ensuring the department meets its objectives by assisting in managing the sales floor and monitoring product quality and safety. The environment is dynamic, with opportunities for part-time and full-time work, offering flexibility to accommodate different lifestyles. Smith's is dedicated to nurturing talent and promoting growth within its ranks through industry-leading training programs and diverse career pathways.

One of the perks of working with Smith’s Food and Drug is the comprehensive benefits package offered through the Kroger family of companies. This includes a wide range of healthcare options, such as medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, in addition to paid time off, holiday pay, and sick leave based on eligibility. Emotional and financial well-being is supported through counseling services and financial coaching, ensuring associates thrive both personally and professionally. Smith's also offers tuition reimbursement up to $21,000 over a career, underlining its commitment to continuing education and long-term development.

This position requires individuals who can manage stressful situations effectively and communicate confidently with customers and colleagues. Familiarity with basic math and possession of a current food handler’s permit (once employed) are essential prerequisites. Experience in bakery and retail environments is highly desirable, as is the ability to communicate in a second language. Those who join Smith's will find themselves part of a community-driven workplace that values trust, respect, and a positive attitude.

By joining Smith's Food and Drug, you become part of a company that cares deeply about its associates and customers alike, providing the tools and support necessary for success in a fast-paced retail setting. Whether you are just beginning your career or looking for a new path, Smith’s offers a fresh start with ample opportunity for learning and advancement.
