We are currently seeking a passionate, organized, and hands-on Bakery Sous Chef to join our team. The Bakery Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Bakery Chef to oversee daily production and ensure that every product meets the company's commitment to excellence. In this position, the Sous Chef will play an essential role in maintaining high quality and consistency across all baked goods, from artisan breads and viennoiserie to pastries, cakes, and seasonal specialty items.

As a Bakery Sous Chef, you will be expected to assist in managing all daily commissary bakery production and operations. This includes preparing a wide variety of products with expert skill and precision, adhering strictly to recipes, production schedules, and portion control standards. You will foster a positive, professional kitchen culture, leading by example and supporting the growth and development of bakers, pastry cooks, and production staff. A crucial element of the role involves verifying product quality at every stage of production and maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards. In addition to production oversight, you will help monitor inventory, assist with ordering and receiving of ingredients, and take measures to minimize waste through effective planning and proper inventory rotation.

Your leadership will extend to training new employees on company standards, recipes, techniques, and equipment use, reinforcing a collaborative and skilled team environment. You will also assist in menu development, seasonal offerings, and recipe testing, ensuring that the bakery continuously innovates and meets evolving customer tastes. This role supports various operational aspects, including catering, wholesale, retail, and restaurant production as needed. Physical demands require the ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in various temperature conditions including hot and cold environments. The schedule will require flexibility including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 plus years of professional bakery or pastry experience
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of artisan bread production, viennoiserie, laminated doughs, cakes and pastries, scratch baking
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining exceptional quality
  • Food safety certification preferred
  • Culinary or pastry education is a plus

Job Duties
