The Bakery Oven Operator at El Rancho Supermercado plays a crucial role in ensuring that freshly baked bread and other bakery products are available and of high quality for the store opening and throughout the day. This role involves operational awareness of baking processes, quality control, product presentation, and customer interaction. The operator is responsible for baking various breads, cookies, desserts, and especially pan dulce — a staple in many households served by the supermarket. The role requires not only technical baking skills but also teamwork, communication, and a genuine passion for customer service. The Bakery Oven Operator must manage inventory efficiently, maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards, ensure food safety, and uphold the store's visual merchandising standards by stocking and organizing bakery products attractively and accurately. Working with professional baking equipment, supporting the baking team, and responding to customer inquiries or orders are key aspects of this role. Job Requirements

  • Valid Food Handlers Card
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to walk and stand continuously throughout shift
  • Basic knowledge of baked products and baking equipment
  • Ability to multitask and communicate effectively
  • Previous customer service or retail experience preferred

  • Customer service and retail experience desirable

Job Duties

  • Greet and interact with customers to address questions or concerns in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Organize products in display case and tables while ensuring fully stocked cases
  • Support team with baking various breads, cookies, and desserts, including pan dulce
  • Possess knowledge of basic baked products (cakes, breads, cookies, pan dulce, special order cakes, etc.) and standard baking production equipment
  • Ability to perform advance baking methods, as well as the ability to multitask
  • Effectively communicate with management and baking team in order to fulfill and address any issues or needs requested by guests and other employees
  • Conduct inventory on a regular basis to ensure proper levels
  • Maintain standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, department conditions, and food safety
  • Stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Work with various professional bakery equipment, including heat sources, mixers, and blenders
  • Take food orders in person and by telephone
  • All other duties as assigned
