Job Description

Salmonberry Goods is a distinguished farm-to-table sourdough bakery located in Seattle, Washington, dedicated to bridging the gap between people and farmers through high-quality, locally sourced food. Since its inception in 2020, the bakery has not only produced exquisite sourdough bread but has also expanded its offerings by delivering an array of small farm vegetables, fruits, and meats across Seattle, reinforcing its commitment to supporting local agriculture. The bakery’s recent opening of a baker-grocer shop in Sunset Hill in 2024 further emphasizes its mission by sourcing exclusively from small Washington state farmers, creating a unique and community-centered food destination. Each week, the bakery’s passionate and skilled team crafts hundreds of loaves of sourdough bread, alongside large batches of craft pastries, kombucha, pasta, and more, catering to a diverse clientele that values quality, freshness, and sustainable practices.

The Bakery Manager role at Salmonberry Goods is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing daily operations within the bustling production kitchen. This role is entrusted with managing the full cycle of bakery production, from week planning and team scheduling to inventory management and menu innovation. The manager is expected to lead and inspire a small, dedicated team, ensuring the smooth functioning and continuous improvement of all bakery operations. Key responsibilities include executing preplist management to meet production demands and accommodating team members’ time off, enhancing standard operating procedures, and collaborating with other leadership figures to optimize workflows and systems. The role also involves pushing the boundaries of sourcing and production techniques to advance the bakery’s mission of supporting local farms and enhancing food accessibility.

Compensation for this management position ranges from $60,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience (DOE), with options for participating in the company healthcare plan and a generous 30 percent team discount. The bakery manager can also anticipate opportunities for wage growth and career advancement linked to tenure and performance, reflecting Salmonberry Goods’ commitment to fostering long-term career fits over 2 to 5+ years.

The position requires availability from Tuesday through Saturday, with early start times varying from 5 am to 7 am on different days to accommodate production schedules. The manager will also be granted a regular half-day off from kitchen duties and is expected to participate in occasional supporting bake shifts on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, including a few early morning shifts at 3-4 am, which are distributed fairly among team members. Physical stamina is essential, as the job demands full-day standing, frequent bending and reaching, and handling repetitive precise motions. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is mandatory, reflecting the physical nature of bakery work.

This role calls for a leader who not only manages operations effectively but also embodies the values of professionalism, consistency, and craftsmanship. The bakery manager is charged with maintaining high standards for quality and safety, inspiring team members to uphold these values, and fostering a workplace environment characterized by positivity, kindness, and excellence. Experience in foodservice, back of house, preparation, or baking is a critical requirement, with a preference for candidates who demonstrate self-motivation and a serious professional approach to food safety and kitchen dynamics.

To apply, candidates are invited to submit their resume along with a cover letter detailing their music preferences while working, favorite cooking or baking experiences and reasons, availability, and a statement on why they would be an excellent fit to lead the Salmonberry Goods bakery team. This application process highlights the bakery’s personable and community-focused culture, aiming to select a manager who not only meets operational needs but also resonates with the company’s ethos and mission.
