Stone Ground Bakery and Wheat Montana Bakery and Deli are prominent names in the Intermountain West bakery industry, recognized for their unwavering commitment to producing high-quality baked goods paired with premium flour products. Operating bakeries in both Salt Lake City, Utah, and Three Forks, Montana, they serve a diverse customer base with their signature breads, buns, and deli offerings crafted from the finest ingredients. Known as the baker's choice for flour, Wheat Montana integrates tradition and innovation, aiming to deliver products that bring delight and satisfaction to every consumer occasion. The company takes pride in its dedication to quality, food safety, and superior customer service, driving its role as a leader in the regional bakery market. This focus ensures the highest standards in both product excellence and operational integrity throughout its production processes.
The Bakery Generalist position at Stone Ground Bakery and Wheat Montana Bakery and Deli plays a vital role in the commercial bakery's daily operations. This role is especially designed for individuals who are passionate about the art and science of baking, operating at the heart of bread and bun production. A Bakery Generalist is responsible for executing a variety of critical tasks across the production spectrum — from accurately preparing ingredients and operating specialized machinery to shaping dough, managing proofing and baking cycles, and ensuring that the final products are of premium quality and meet strict food safety regulations. The generalist’s flexibility to support multiple stages of production and packaging processes makes this position integral to the rhythm and success of bakery operations.
The position demands precision in ingredient measurement, operation of kneading and mixing machines, and proficient handling of shaping and proofing equipment to ensure optimal dough consistency and rise. The Bakery Generalist also manages the loading and unloading of ovens and proof boxes under conditions that maintain baked good integrity and optimal freshness. Quality assurance is a continuous responsibility, involving thorough inspections to spot any defects and intervene accordingly to uphold the bakery’s high standards. Beyond production, this role includes maintaining a clean and safe work environment, adhering strictly to health regulations and safety protocols, and supporting overall sanitation efforts.
Another key component of the Bakery Generalist’s duties involves active participation in food safety programs, ensuring compliance with the facility’s Food Safety Plan, Food Quality Plan, and other regulatory frameworks that include SQF certification and third-party audits. Collaborative teamwork is essential; the generalist supports colleagues by filling in as needed across both production and packaging areas, demonstrating adaptability, reliability, and a positive approach to dynamic production demands. This role offers valuable on-the-job training in plant safety, allergen management, and other essential bakery operational aspects, emphasizing career growth and skill advancement in a supportive environment.
This position is suitable for motivated individuals who meet the age and language proficiency requirements and who possess basic mathematical skills for accurate measuring and weighing. Physical stamina is necessary as the role involves standing for long periods and handling heavy equipment and items up to 50 pounds in an environment characterized by heat and dust. The Bakery Generalist position at Stone Ground Bakery and Wheat Montana Bakery and Deli represents an excellent opportunity for those seeking to embark on or enhance a career in commercial baking within a respected and trusted brand known for quality, safety, and community engagement.
