The role of a Bakery Team Leader at Whole Foods Market is a critical position that focuses on ensuring the smooth operation of the bakery department. This involves supervising and scheduling Team Members, supporting leadership within the department, and maintaining the highest standards in bakery, coffee, and juice displays. The Bakery Team Leader plays a key role in training staff, overseeing product quality, and ensuring proper compliance with health and safety standards, including food safety regulations.

The Bakery Team Leader delegates tasks, trains new Team Members using structured training materials, ensures cleanliness and proper stock rotation, and maintains department operations according to established procedures. Job Requirements

  • Minimum 12 months retail experience
  • able to lift 50 pounds
  • stand/walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day
  • ability to perform hand use tasks such as single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • ability to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
  • ability to work in FDA approved cleaning chemical environments
  • able to tolerate temperatures up to 90 degrees fahrenheit
  • able to work in wet and dry conditions
  • able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

  • Extensive knowledge of bakery team procedures and policies
  • strong demonstrated organizational and time management skills

  • proficiency with email, microsoft office, and operations-related applications
  • minimum 12 months of retail experience

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to bakery team members
  • works with bakery trainer to train team members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • assists in training of new team members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials
  • keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated
  • opens and closes department according to established procedures
  • ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • communicates team concerns to the team leader and associate team leader
  • sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs team members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • responds promptly to customer needs and questions
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels team members in a manner that sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • consistently communicates and models whole foods market vision and goals
